A Tim Horton’s Experience

Writen By Tyler Ingram on Mar 26, 2008

Now some people out there (especially Canadians) have possibly have had a Tim Horton’s coffee in their life time, right? Well I have not had my own Tim Horton’s coffee and I wanted to try it out for the first time after having little sips of people’s coffee here and there.

Tim Horton’s - First Coffee Experience Well my first chance was when we were at Toronto Pearson Airport in the international terminal about to board our Airbus 320 down to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Unfortunately it was not the greatest experience.

Normally when you go to a Tim Horton’s here in Vancouver, you are greeted with a friendly smile and a hello. You feel welcomed. Where we went in Toronto we were not greeted so nicely. The service we had was unfortunately very poor.

We ordered our food (wheat-n-honey bagel with herb cream cheese) only to be told they did not have any. I think I went through three different types of bagels before they informed us that they only had plain available. Moments later they informed us they were also out of all the cream cheese flavours except for plain. Disgruntled we agreed and asked them to be toasted and that we also wanted two double-double tall coffees.

While we waited for our bagels to be made I overheard the other people in the line ask for items that this particular Tim Horton’s was out of stock on and they ended up leaving. They too were not greeting in a friendly manner.

Once we got our bagels we sat down to munch on them and drink our coffees. I was looking forward to the coffee but was really disappointed. It was like drinking cold, brown water. Robyn also agreed as her coffee tasted the same. Our bagels were also not toasted but we ate them anyway. When the couple we were traveling with us came by we had them taste our coffee too and they both described it as ‘Watery and Burnt’. Since we did not want to have to deal with the employees at that particular Tim Horton’s we did not go back to complain. What could they do for us when their coffee was cold, and they were low on stock for everything? Besides we didn’t win anything on the Roll-up-the-rim contest either.

I have emailed this experience to their customer support email address in hoping to see what sort of response the company will make. Being low on stock does suck, but when you are at a fairly large airport and the time just being after 1pm, you would think that they would have stock for their location for the lunch crowd catching international flights right?

  • I’m a contractor base on Toronto. Tim Hortons coffee is must have for me, everyday. I drive around Toronto to buy coffee, where depends on the location I work [4 to 5 cup per day].
I’ll say not all Tim Horton Stores are equal. I just mean the coffee quality [not service level]. Too much water [weaker than normally], sitting too long [sour], too much sugar or too little when I order double, double.
To control coffee quality is so difficult already, on service level with a big smaile every time? ….
As long as I got acceptable service level w/ reason coffee quality 8 or 9 out of 10, I will be fine.
However, the service level you met at an international airport, I’ll not accept. Tim Horton will have a lot to do on their quality control.
I love Tim Horton coffee. I hope they will improve, and do better in the future!

  • Yea my normal service at Timmy’s is great, but this was just beyond a nightmare! Not a great way to start off our vacation lol. Thanks for the comment!
