Last night just before we popped in a DVD to watch, I noticed that the moon was rising and was near full. I quickly setup the camera on the tripod and took a dozen or so photos of it.
Due to the construction of my cheap $20 tripod, along with the weight of my Canon EF 70-200 f2.8L IS lens, it was hard to get a good focus of the moon. If I just tapped the focus ring, the weight of the camera on the tripod sent is shuddering. I would have to tweak, wait, tweak, wait over and over again to try and get a good manual focus of the moon. I was using the screen with 10x zoom to try and get a good focus too, so there was a bit of a time-consuming process. Either way, the photo turned out pretty good, after a little bit of a crop of course.
I’d love to try and get a shot of the moon with a longer lens one day. A 2.0 teleconverter would be fun to try out for a moon shot as well. One day I’ll get myself a good solid tripod where it won’t shake and shudder when I try and focus on a subject. At least I do have a cable shutter release for my Canon XSi. Anything to help reduce camera shake!
Coming up next: Our recent visit to Whistler for some more Ski and Board action!

Cool shot!
You know there’s going to be a total lunar eclipse tonight right?
