Well another season of one of the highest rated shows is back on the air again. American Idol Season 6 kicks off with the ever so wonderful panel of judges: Simon Crowell, Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson and of course the host Ryan Seacrest. Alongside the fun and humorous panel of judges joins Jewel.
Now I normally do not watch much television (well except for House and Bones) but the roommate loves watching the first couple of weeks of American Idol and I agree it can be the best part of it. To see the people who think they can sing but get shot down and most of the time humiliated on national TV seems to be the best part of the show. Sure I know I can’t sing, but would I ever go on TV where millions of people tune in to watch and make an ass out of myself? Do these people’s friends not tell them they can’t sing because they don’t want to hurt their feelings? I would rather have a friend tell me I can’t sing than go up against the judges and be told the best course of action is to leave!
I do agree with some of their comments, like how some contestants are not suited for singing and should try out for America’s Top Talent (think that is what it is called), or how some of the songs that the contestants picked out just does not suit them, like the girl from Columbia who should of started with Shakira’s Hips Don’t Lie.
Now one thing I did notice is that Simon (and the others though not as much) would comments on how much America would like them and I mean in reference to their looks. I thought this was a talent show for singing and not a Miss Teen USA pageant? I guess you have to be perfect to be in the eye of the public and I do suppose that the more ‘perfect’ you are the better your ‘popularity’ will be right? I guess it goes in line with: Who would you rather see; Rita McNeil or Jewel singing on stage? Both are talented singers.
This season’s show starts off in Minneapolis and out of the thousands of auditions only 17 make it to Hollywood. 17?? That is an insanely low number! Hopefully the tonight’s auditions do a better job and that this year’s American Idol produces a few new and unique artists.

Lol, my wife and I watched it last night as well and the first few shows are always the funniest. The previews for tonight’s episode looked like they have some real *interesting* characters in Seattle.
Clearly some of these people just want the attention, maybe trying to become the next William Hung (I think that was his name). That cannot honestly think they can sing.

Yea his name was William Hung.
I like the people who have said they’ve had vocal lessons for years or have some degree and they get shot down by the whole panel. Though to be told on national TV that you really suck where you thought you were really good would kinda hurt too eh?
