Are You Happy With Your Current Employer

Written By Tyler Ingram on Sep 12, 2007

As I sit here checking the daily spam (roughly 1000 new messages every hour) I start to wonder how many people are truly happy with their Employer and if not then how come?

Have you ever worked for a company where in the beginning it was more like a nice small family where everyone got along with each other, there was incentive to come in every weekday and you generally enjoyed working?

Have you ever gotten to the point where coming to work is something you dread and once you’re at work your mood is meh? Do you look at the clock hoping that time would go by faster?

Does your employer praise your work? Do they seem appreciative of what it is you have done for them?  Or do they just mention the things you’ve done incorrectly or don’t tell you anything at all?

Am I sounding bitter?

I have created a new poll which asks this very question:  Are you happy with your employer?

  • The only times that I’ve dreaded going to work is when the job is unfufilling. Like the last job I had in an office could be summed up as “copy and pasting graphics”. The only day that I went home not feeling mentally drained was the day on of my supervisors got me to write a script in ASP for him.

  • I really grew to hate my last employer. Well, it was my boss that I hated (the pay and benefits were great!). He really lacked communication skills, never gave any feedback (never mind praise), and was never supportive of my ideas. All he wanted were status reports and spreadsheets.

  • Lately it seems that I have been dreading work on a regular basis. In my case, it isn’t so much the job itself but the commute that I have. While I’m not exactly passionate about the job, it is good enough but lately has not been enough to compensate for the drive.

  • I love my employer. He’s a swell guy. Wait a sec… he’s… ME! :D

  • I’d hope you get along with yourself. Might be an issue if you didnt! lol

  • NO, a job is just that, you can go every day but you never know when you are going to be fired.

Maybe if you work for companies like Google, Yahoo, ESPN should be great…

  • I don’t think about being fired, I just mean I used to enjoy going to work. Well some days depending on what I am working on I do enjoy going to work but other days not so much.

Why can’t work be fun? We work for the majority of our lives right? So why can’t we make it fun so we don’t stress out so much and are (hopefully) healthier.

Everyone tells me that work isn’t supposed to be fun, it’s work. But when I have fun at work I am far more productive and efficient and I leave in a good mood usually to return in a good mood too.

I believe in a happy employee is an efficient employee.
