Well I am finally back home from my weekend trip to Vernon, BC and I really enjoyed it wishing I could have stayed longer. The weather on Friday morning was not looking too good, in-fact it rained from Pitt Meadows to about Hope and at times the road would disappear because of the semi-trucks and the amount of spray from their wheels. Once I got onto the Coquihalla Highway the weather cleared up and it was just a cloudy sky. The Toll Booth was clear and I sailed through after I paid my $10 fee.
My first stop was not till Merritt. Yes this is the same Merritt where they have the Merritt Mountain Music Festival that is like one gigantic party. Here I bought some breakfast burritos and topped up my car’s gas tank. Then it was time to go back to the highway and the last little stretch (about 2 more hours driving) before I hit Kelowna.
They are updating the connector and it is going good, some light construction but during the time I went I had no troubles, I even saw 3 moose along the way!
In Westbank, they seem to be building a new bridge alongside the old one that connects Westbank and Kelowna together and it will have like 6 lanes, which would be good because I have heard that it can take up to an hour during busy traffic times to cross over the Okanagan Lake.
I arrived at my destination in about 5 hours of driving (1 pm) and roughly 500 KM which isn’t bad since I had a brief stopover in Merritt. I drove around and explored the small town of Vernon a little because my friend would have still been in bed and I could not check into my hotel for a couple of hours.
To Be Continued….
