BC Place Stadium’s Roof Deflates

Written By Tyler Ingram on Jan 05, 2007

Well it seems that due to the high winds, heavy rain and snow BC Place Stadium’s inflatable roof collapsed today.  The people of Vancouver said that it only took a couple of minutes for the roof to disappear behind the grey concrete walls of the stadium where it was said it would take roughly 4 to 6 hours to deflate.

The roof is made out of a 1/30th of an inch fiberglass type fabric that is supposed to be as strong as steel, but after two decades even steel’s strength begins to weaken. Luckily the six full-time employees of the Hall of Fame were evacuated and no one was hurt when the roof collapsed.

Vancouver skyline will not look the same for a while. BC Place stadium has been one of the main icons in Vancouver, home to the BC Lions and place to the many events like concerts that Vancouver has annually.

You can read more about it on CBC’s website: B.C.Place dome Collapses

Yea it happened sometime yesturday. I haven’t checked the news today for updates about it but I’ll definately take a look after breakfast.

Crazy eh? Our skyline won’t be the same until they repair it. Though BCPlace Stadium was build in 1983 and modeled after the MetroDome?
