Big Capacity, Small Format
It seems over the past few days that some large capacity small format memory cards have been announced. Lexar announced their 4 GB SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) cards in two speeds; greater than 2 MB per second and their Platinum II series which is greater than 6 MB per second in sustained write speeds.
During CES 2007, Panasonic also announced their SDHC memory card as well that has a capacity of up to 4 GB with a sustained write speed of also 6 MB per second. They plan on releasing a 16 GB memory card as well. Imagine a 16 GB memory card for your digital camera? RAW format shooting people will love it whereas the jpeg shooters will have an almost unlimited space to store their photos without ever having to swap cards.
The last of the latest memory card releases that was also announced in CES 2007 was from Sony. They accounted a Memory Stick Pro Duo with a capacity of 8 GB! Those with Cyber-shots digital cameras or those new Sony-Ericsson (W810i) MP3 cell phones will now be able to store even more with this tiny memory card.
Now if I were able to get a hold of one of these SDHC memory cards that would be great. Though I don’t own a digital camera any more let alone one that would be able to actually use the class 6 write speeds of 6 MB per second but perhaps one day I will get my life-long dream camera; Canon Digital Rebel Xt(i). It is a reasonable dream right?

Life isn’t much fun without dreams, so keep dreaming for that Xt(i). I’ve been interested in photography for quite some time and would absolutely love a digital SLR.
As a matter of fact, I just came across a batch of pictures from my photography class in college. It was a nice trip back to those memories.
One of these days I play to head over to Halifax, Nova Scotia where my uncle is head of the photography department for the university.
I’d love to take a class or two with him on photography.
That would be great to take advantage of the experience within the family to improve your skills. I really enjoyed shooting black and white and developing my own film, it was a blast.
I did a bit of film photography back in grade school. I found it too expensive and digital is so convenient. With the 10MP cameras out now, they are getting closer to the 35mm quality.
I love black and white people photography, to me it seems to leave more the imagination to play with when you have to think about the colours that could be in the photo.
