Blog Stats for April 2008
Alright today being the first of May 2008 means that I get to take a look at my previous month’s statistics, which of course means April. Now it seems that people out there like to see how other bloggers are doing each month and I am one of those people. It also allows me to see how I am doing as a blogger, allows me to see what aspects of my blog I can improve upon (visits, bounce rates, etc), it also helps me look to see what sort of topics people like to read on my blog based on the traffic I receive from the search engines. Search engine traffic is still my main source visits which is roughly 64% of total traffic to my blog.
April 2008 Stats:
- 5396 Page Views (+244%)
- 3397 Visits (+253%)
- 77.48% Bounce Rate (+1.46%)
Now to me a 253% increase in visits to my blog is quite impressive and I am happy to see that. The bounce rate is still a bit high for my liking but I am working on trying to lower it. After all we want people to stay on our site longer correct?
The two most popular keywords for April were “lululemon mansy” and “kal tire” which point to the following to articles on my blog:
RSS Feed Subscriptions
I have had an increase to my readership for my RSS Feed as well at an impressive 200%. If you would like to subscribe to my Full RSS Feed, please do. It will keep you up to date with what is happening with my site as well as others around the internet.
Blog Income for April 2008
Incoming on my blog isn’t high and I don’t try to monetize my blog as much as the majority of people out there seem to try. Some people are quite successful, others are not. I believe that a niche blogs do the best when it comes to monetizing due to the larger flow of traffic they can receive. I like to try out all the various types of advertising affiliates and see how they function but the majority of them do better with a larger traffic base. Private Ad sales I believe are better for lower traffic sites in the beginning though and I will look more into Private Ad sales for the month of May to see how they might compare.
Google AdSense for April: $9.87 | 1.14% CTR (+542%)
Private Ad Sales: $15.00 (0.00%)
Total Income for April 2008: $24.87
So there you have it, my recap for my blog’s March statistics. It has been an interesting month with a 250%+ increase in overall traffic and an amazing 542% increase in Google AdSense revenue. Imagine if my traffic was higher and my impressions/CTR was to match at 542%?
I would like to see this steady increase in overall traffic and readership for the months to come and I will work at keeping the content and information flowing. My experience thus far in the world of blogging has been pretty interesting and fun and will continue to be an enjoyment.

I’ll have to figure out how get stats one day. Granted Wordpress has some stats built in, but would like to have some detail like yours. Since I’m Wordpress.com, I can’t add analytics to it and place ads. Definately the ads would pay for hosting in itself.
Some thoughts for me.

That’s a good start though I used to make $20 per month at the beginning slowly but surely hopefully youll hit the big numbers… it took me one year to hit the $3000 mark…

Raul - Next time! I’ll be there
Gus - I need to look at what people can do with wordpress to get the most out of it if they don’t choose the self hosting way.
ClickForNick - Oh 2k in Google Adsense huh? Nice work.

Very impressive Tyler! That is a really nice boost in traffic and RSS numbers. As for the earnings, don’t get discouraged as it does take time and I am sure that will continue to grow as well. Just be careful about disclosing CTR and certain stats as the “G” doesn’t take too kindly to that.

Thanks Derek for the heads up. hehe
Silly “G” always ruining our fun.

If you want to grow definitely do some keyword research and link building. addurl.nu. ive added my site to a majority of these directories and saw huge jumps in traffic as a result.

Good start for revenue. I made virtually nothing the first couple months. Reinvest.

I think a lot of the increase also has to do with the fact that you post about “top of mind” things, you take blogging serious and your site is organized.
I personally enjoy your blog!

Hey Tyler,
Nice looking blog man, have to admit its my first visit. I’m curious though based on this post what your goals are. If you are trying to make money from this blog, you may be going about it all wrong.
Certainly a 250% increase in traffic is a good thing. Its also good that the majority of it comes from search traffic. I may have missed it but I don’t see any revenue generators on your site other than ads (please correct me if I’m wrong). If that’s the case, you only make money when they click the ads (i.e. bounce) so why to you want them to stay on your site? Wouldn’t the whole idea be to get them to click an ad and bounce?
I think you also hold a popular but grossly incorrect view that you have to have lots of traffic to make money. Certainly with a low click thru that logic would seem to make sense, and it is what everyone preaches. But what if you could get 10 visits a day and make just $1 off each one? Wouldn’t that be better? And with only 10 visits, not thousands! I’d rather have one visit a day from a buyer than 1000 visits a day from readers.
Don’t get me wrong. You’ve put together a wonderful site here to be sure. And if your goal is to develop a social network and speak your peace, the please forgive me for taking everyone down the bunny trail. But if you’re looking to make some money, I just wanted to let you and your readers know you don’t have to wait months or years to make a couple of hundred bucks. There is another way.
Thanks and good luck!!

Tyler - good stuff! It’s always a thrill when you look at your stats and see them going in the right direction, lets you know that you are on track with your goals. I’ve started showing my blog stats as well… though I’m not making the equivalent to a certain Vancouver dot com mogul, I made just enough for a Tim Hortons coffee last month!!! LOL!
