Blog Stats for November 2008

Writen By Tyler Ingram on Dec 03, 2008

Well it seems that yet another month has gone by and we’re slowly reaching the end of another year. It seems like I just recently did my Blog Stats for October 2008 post but it was about a month ago, I guess it seems pretty recent because if I look over at my Recent Posts it is currently in my 10 most Recent Posts section of my sidebar. Though after posting this post that will vanish. Obviously I have not reached my post at least once per day quota I set for myself in the beginning of the month right?

So why have I not reached my 1 post per day quota?

Is that too much work? Am I being lazy? Perhaps a little bit of both? I did recently moved in with Robyn which has kept me fairly busy. I’ve also been working on a new blog for both her and I which we are trying to get launched sooner than later. I just have to pick a new background colour for it and it should be good to go. I’ve been adding photos to my photo blog, which I am equally enjoying.

I know the month of December is going to be fairly busy for myself. December includes 3 birthdays in my family; mine, my brothers and my dads. There is Christmas, which means visiting the parents of mine and of Robyn’s which will be fun this year. Robyn and I have also booked a weekend getaway to Whistler, BC for some Ski/Snowboarding action and GTs (good times).

There are a bunch of presents that are needing to be bought sooner than later too. I have 3 siblings in which I need to figure out gifts. My oldest sister is heading over to England to stay with her boyfriend soon so I need to quickly pick up her gift. My brother’s birthday is this weekend so I need to get him his gift and figure out his Christmas present also.

On top of that I am a bit behind in the product review category also. I need to buckle down this weekend and work on a review that is scheduled to go live next week, then I have 2 products I need to review before Christmas (or at least I’d like to).

Then I have to fit some photography into the mix too oh and exercise! I hope our local mountains get some decent snow soon so I can go and take photos for Christmas cards I want to do this year. I also hope the local mountains open for our 2008/2009 ski/snowboard season too! Robyn and I are both excited for that.

Anyway December will be a busy month but I plan on trying to get some posts out during it all. I’ll have to come up with a posting plan and follow along with Raul’s Productivity Tips as he posts them to stay on track.

Blog Stats for November 2008

  • Visits: 5,579 (+0.52%)
  • Pageviews: 7,124 (-0.63%)
  • Twitter Followers: ~332 (+28%)
  • RSS Subscribers: ~77 (+0.07%)

It’s nice to see that visits things are relatively the same but with a nice increase of Twitter followers. I find that Twitter is a great service when you need to reach a large diversity of people quickly. Imagine: You have a question that you need answered pretty quick. With over 300 people I can ask, I get the answer I need quick and rarely conflicting.  It also allows me to posts links to over 300 people at once in which I believe the majority will find interesting. Twitter is also a great way to get traffic to your site. I find another great feature of Twitter and the people within Twitter is that you can stay on top of current events, trends and more. If you’re not following me on Twitter, you should be.

Earnings for November 2008

There were no record breaking amounts earned in November but with only 10 posts in the month can you hardly blame me? hehe

  • Google AdSense: $7.87 (-10%)
  • Private Ad Sales: $15

Again not the greatest nor did I really try to increase it either. It pays for my site hosting so I’m content with that. Perhaps I’ll look at trying to increase it a bit more. Though with being moved and having my computer set up complete I’ll have to look at jumping into more Freelance developer/designer work too. Any extra income is a good thing!

For some other stats that could be interesting and I’d like to share with you are the following:

Top 5 Referring Sites:

  • images.google.com
  • google.com
  • images.google.ca
  • twitter.com
  • facebook.com

Top 5 Referring Blogs:

Nice to see some familiar blogs sending me a little bit of traffic. Though two of them really should look at switching to a self-hosted type like WordPress. In fact, if you’re interested I would be willing to help get you on the path to self-hosted freedom!

Why go self-hosted?

With today’s web hosting packages you can pay less than $6 a month (domain name extra) which is roughly the price of a Starbucks coffee! You can then customize your blog to be more unique like you. You can have your own personalized place on the internet.

Why go WordPress?

WordPress I believe is _the_ ultimate blogging environment. With hundreds of thousands of users you will also find new features, improvements and support. Not to mention thousands of free themes which are easily installed with just a couple clicks of the mouse. If you want you can also look at modifying themes though that might take a bit more ingenuity but people like myself are always available to help you.

Top 5 Posts for November

Since majority of my traffic is brought in by Google it doesn’t surprise me that my Kal Tire post is still a head of the pack for being in the top 5 posts. Though it has also brought some pretty interesting comments as well. Some people might find the Facebook Photo post interesting if they did not know about the user agreement you ’sign’ when you upload your photos, I’ve highlighted the fine print for that. Two Sony Ericsson cellphones seem to be a popular search subject for Google as well. I enjoy doing reviews and plan on continuing them throughout the year for both my blog as well as Futurelooks.com so stay tuned. Perhaps there might be some giveaways here on my blog for some free swag! And no it wouldn’t be ‘Shit We All Get’ either ;)

Overall November has been pretty busy but just not much so here on my blog. My other sites are getting more of my attention as I work out their kinks and my personal life is pretty busy for the month of December but I won’t ever stop posting here. I enjoy writing about whatever I find interesting and what might be interesting to other people, it also allows me to write on my writting skills though I look at a writing course or two in the spring along with some more Adobe Illustrator courses.

I thank all of those who visit here at Tyler Ingram dot Com and without you I wouldn’t enjoy doing this as much.

  • Believe me, I’ve been thinking about switching to Wordpress for a long time now…it’s very tempting especially now that Blogger has totally changed its template/layout format. I’ll do that one of these days… just need to stick around in town during the weekend instead of heading out on my craaaazy outdoor trips. :)

  • Great traffic numbers Tyler! The new blog sounds interested, I’ll be watching for it. I have found Blogspotters and other freehosted folks don’t know what to do with a self-hosted blog so it’s kind of pointless to recommend it. Just my experience. I’ve even had people revert to free because they can’t stretch their minds.

  • @tawcan damn you and your outdoor adventures! I get jealous! Though i’m not near the skill of you on the slopes but I am trying! lol

@Damien thanks! I hope to make some extra time to get Robyn and I to launch the site. Should be good just ya know time can be a bit of a hard thing to come by in busy seasons.

  • Great rundown!

  • Hey nice stats!

Oh, I also think Tawcan should switch to Wordpress ;)
