On Sunday, for Robyn's mum's birthday we headed over to the VanDusen Botanical Garden in Vancouver to check out the recent Sakura Day Japan Festival. The weather was not the greatest, but it did manage to keep the rain away while we wondered around the gardens. I have never been to the gardens before, but I can't wait for later in the season when more of the garden comes to … Continue Reading »

Woke up to the sound of rain this morning and looked out side. A little bit deary here in Vancouver, so I thought it would be nice to add some colour to my site. Over on Hornby Island there is a little place called the Cardboard House Bakery and not only do they have awesome bakery products and other food, but they also have a quaint little garden full of … Continue Reading »

An adult bald eagle perched in a tree in Helliwell Provincial Park on Hornby Island BC.
Even though I don't have much time these days to head outside with the camera, I do seem to have a lot of photos I haven't uploaded to Flickr. I do have roughly 2500 photos stored on my laptop, so I am sure I can find something here and there to post up for your … Continue Reading »

A psuedo-HDR of the lighthouse at Atkinson Point in West Vancouver (also known as Lighthouse Park).
What do I mean by Pseudo-HDR?
Typically, HDR photograph consists of multiple exposures such as -3, 0, +3. Though when you do not take multiple-exposures you can sometimes still create an HDR looking image like the one above. Granted, the program you use (such as Photomatix Pro) will help a lot when using 1 RAW file. … Continue Reading »

Where you expecting to see a wild dolphin? Unfortunately, I do not have photos of them in the wild, but I have seen them swimming along side a cruise ship I took up to Alaska one year.
The above photo is of one of the three Pacific White-Sided dolphins at the Vancouver Aquarium. You'll notice the front fins are deformed, as this particular dolphin was caught up in a fishing net … Continue Reading »

It came and is now gone, I guess that's how Spring Break is supposed to go right? It was a week long and it was definitely needed. School has been pretty full on, especially with just finishing up our midterms our finals are not very far away (in April).
So what did we get up to? It was a nice and relaxing time, which is what I wanted before going back … Continue Reading »

Today is the first day of our March spring break and although the weather is alright, Robyn and I decided to head off for a little walk around Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver.
I of course brought my camera with me, just in case there was some cool thing to photograph. Well it seems that Robyn and I were in luck. There were a couple of bald eagles flying around and … Continue Reading »

How can Shoreline Birds and DNS be talked about in the same title? Well, let's find out!
I understand that not everyone likes watching birds, or looking at photos of birds etc, well tough luck!
These little guys (Oyster Catchers) can be typically seen foraging among the mussels on low tide near 3rd Beach in Stanley Park. Their colourful bills definitely make them stand out when you're walking the seawall as does … Continue Reading »

So the following isn't really a model, but I have always enjoyed trying to make the appearance of a model. Typically you can do this with a Tilt-Shift lens, but since I don't own one, Photoshop will do just fine.
The trick to get a decent looking tilt-shift is the viewing angle for which you shoot from. To get a better looking tilt-shift or miniature look to what you're shooting you … Continue Reading »

When we got home yesterday the sun was beginning to set. I saw the colours forming and quickly grabbed my camera, popped out on to our balcony and started to compose a couple shots. I varied between my telephoto lens and my wide-angle, though I liked more of the telephoto shots like the one above. The only editing I did was I tried to correct my tendency to shoot on … Continue Reading »
