This photo might not be the most interesting or best technical etc, but I thought it would be neat to show people how the Venetian, in Las Vegas, has a canal that winds its way through it. You can even take a Gondola ride, which I am sure can be a romantic thing to do. Granted, the Venice canals would be more … Continue Reading »

Along our trip from Japser, Alberta to Banff, Alberta, we stopped off at Peyto Lake. This large, turquoise coloured lake is fed from a nearby glacier (off camera left). The colour of the water is from the silt that is deposited into the lake. When the sunlit hit the silt particles at a particular angle, the unrealistic colour is produced.
The above photo … Continue Reading »

I haven't done a stitch in a while, but I wanted to post something on the sunny side of things. The weather here in Vancouver is a bit wet (when isn't it?) so I thought perhaps a sunny scene might help brighten up your day!
The above photo is approximately 10 photos shot from left to right and then stitched … Continue Reading »

This was taken on top of the Stratosphere in Las Vegas. The thrill ride "Insanity" extends over the edge of the tower and spins people at approximately 3G's, roughly 900ft off the ground. You are also angled at 70 degrees, so you are looking down towards the ground. I wonder how many people throw up on this particular ride. … Continue Reading »

For Robyn's birthday this year, she wanted to head over to the Laity Pumpkin Patch, so we did just that. After a filling lunch at the Blacksheep Pub in Maple Ridge, we braved the crowds at the pumpkin patch located at the base of Laity Street.
Not only does the farm have hundreds of pumpkins out in the patch, but they also of trailer loads of pumpkins that people can pick … Continue Reading »

Moraine Lake in Banff National Park just outside of Lake Louise Alberta. As iconic as Lake Louise is to people, I prefer Moraine Lake. Mainly because it was not as "touristy" as Lake Louise was.
If you get up early enough (like Robyn and I did) you can catch the sun cresting over the mountains and lighting the mountains you see in the photo. The morning sun brings out the colours … Continue Reading »

One thing about where we now live is that there is a covered portion to our deck and patio. That means I can take the (new) laptop outside with me and work in the ocean breeze.
The above photo is a 3-exposure HDR. The colours do make it look a bit gloomy, but the overcast sky seems to do that.
I am sitting here working away on a report I have to … Continue Reading »

I was running a couple of errands after work downtown and had my camera with me so I thought I would try my hand at the waterfall at the corner of Thurlow and Melville. This time, with a proper camera, I did a 3-exposure HDR and it turned out not too bad. I had my polarizer on my lens which allowed for 2-stops less light. That allowed me to use … Continue Reading »

Even though the Celebration of Lights was last night, I was one Vancouverite (can I still call myself one?) that did not want to go see them. Instead, I headed straight to VanDusen Gardens after work as I waited for Robyn to finish her shift.
I brought a nice little dinner with me and sat on a bench underneath a weeping willow tree. Pretty relaxing actually. After I was done with … Continue Reading »

Yesterday, when I woke up and shuffled into the living room I was presented with a brilliant pink sky. What did I do? Grabbed my camera of course and went out to the patio!
I took 3 hand-held exposures of the pink sky as it quickly started to fade and processed them through Photomatix. I love HDR photography because it helps recreate scenery that our eyes capture, but our cameras cannot.
What … Continue Reading »
