It was that time again, the time where hundreds of thousands of people flock to English Bay and the surrounding area to take in one of the largest off-shore fireworks display the World ever sees. Last night was UK’s time to wow us with their fireworks display during the Celebration of Light 2009. The question is though, did they out perform Canada and South Africa?
Here you can see the hundreds of people streaming down Davie Street at around 8:ooPM. The same for Denman Street too as people filed in from all over the Lower Mainland to English Bay to witness UK take the sky. The Vancouver Police Department Crowd Control Unit were in force, in fact they were also on the roofs with video cameras too. We walked from our place on Comox Street, down Denman Street to the beach to check it out before the competition began. We passed 3 VPD check points within the 1.5 blocks of walking to the beach too. Shows that they have stepped up their presence this year.
Robyn, myself, my brother and his girlfriend headed back to our apartment to watch the show from above the massive crowd at English Bay. Though I didn’t think UK did as good as a job at wowing us like Canada or South Africa did the previous nights. The crowd reaction definitely wasn’t the same.
This Saturday is China’s time to shine. I always find that China does the best at the Celebration of Light Firework competition, and I am sure this year they will do an awesome job too. I would also like to go down to the beach this time and take photos, after a while firework photos from the same perspective tend to look all the same (or at least I think so).
Are you going to be watching the Celebration of Light 2009: China this Saturday and find out who wins the competition? Out of the 3 countries who have competed thus far, who do you think has been the best?

I didn’t see the one last Sat and won’t be seeing the one this Sat because I’m away. Comparing Canada and UK I thought UK one was quite boring. There was very little variety throughout the show. Seems like they’re just letting the same kind/colour of fireworks off at the same time. My friends and I had comments like these…
“It’s green firework sale down at Celebration of Light.”
“Ok now they’re letting off all red ones. Sweet!”
Don’t get me wrong, there were definitely some wow factors in UK’s show but a bit more variety would be nice.

This is the first I’ve heard of it! I didn’t even know about this event, lol. Personally I think it’ alot better than the Fireworks we have here for the fourth of July.
Till then,
