Contacting Fellow Bloggers

Written By Tyler Ingram on Mar 20, 2007

Recently it seems (probably just a coincidence) that a few of the more recent blogs I have hopscotched to have had some technical issue and for the most part it is fairly straight-forward for getting in touch with the owner of the blog to offer advice or to mention what issue I had while visiting.

A couple of sites though have had some issues where I have not been able to leave comments due to script bugs/errors or they have also had no contact page.  No email address or a form where I can fill out to get in touch with them to explain what I was doing when things went horribly wrong.

I’ve added a Contact Me page that offers a basic form that will email me questions/comments that people send me.  WordPress also has a similar feature that I do recommend people use if they need to get in touch with the author of the blog and it doesn’t fit any of the topics.

I do recommend looking into adding a Contact Me page or a way for people to get a hold of you without having to leave an off-topic comment (which might get missed by the owner). You might not get a flood of email but it is a nice option in case things do go wrong and they need to be brought to your attention. Just make sure you have some sort of anti-bot, anti-spam security too!

On a side note with blogs and comments, is it me or is it annoying when there is a blog post you’re reading but the blog owner doesn’t offer the ability to leave a comment? I found this frustrating one day when I wanted to add my $0.02 with a particular post. Oh well can’t please everyone eh?

Best thing about the WordPress plugin is that it doesn’t publish your email address anywhere. Just forwards it on.

Yeah, this is really annoying. In fact, I have trouble leaving comments on John Chow’s blog, and even though I’ve emailed him about it a couple of times, he hasn’t done anything about it. There is another website I visit that uses the misty theme too, and I can’t comment on it either, only it doesn’t have a contact form like you’ve mentioned, and there is no way of contacting them. Pretty daft really.

I feel your pain. I don’t know how many blogger blogs I have found with no contact info. There is just no excuse unless you just don’t want people to contact you, but in that case they should just say that.
