DIY Tesla Coils: Well Not Really

Written By Tyler Ingram on Mar 03, 2007

One thing a lot of people think are cool are Tesla Coils. They look cool, sound cool and well… just plain cool!

During my daily Blog Hopscotch I stumbled upon a post over at www.thewrongadvice.com and was pointed over to a website based in Australia site called TeslaDownUnder  that talks about various cool technologies that have sparked interest in many people through the days.

Now this backyard Tesla site has some pretty spectacular photos of their projects working. Though I do encourage you to look at the various other projects they have; a Rail Gun (you’ve all played Doom right?), Ball-Lightning, and various other cool things that can be done with high-voltages.

Though I should mention that no one should even attempt to play with High-Voltage, High-Current projects and I am not held responsible for anyone stupid enough to attempt them!

Now since I got that off my chest, I would like to share with you two of my most favorite photos from their site.

TeslaDownUnder.com - Tesla Eye

TeslaDownUnder - Tesla Car Protection

Some pretty impressive things huh? According to the TeslaDownUnder website, that is the son of one of the creators sitting in that car. He was unhurt but a little skeptical about sitting in it.

It’s kinda sinister isn’t it? You can see he’s standing on a grounding plate of sorts and I’m sure he’s wearing protective clothing under the trench coat!

If I remember correctly, Tesla was High-Voltage low current right? But still a few thousand volts through you isn’t good for the body ;)

I’m sure it would feel extremely well going through his body ;)

Wish I had the time and money to get into stuff like that – I love adrenaline and that would be a perfect fit – haha.

It looks insane but these guys know their stuff. I wouldn’t mind getting in on some of that action.

Just noticed you missed an s on the end of ‘advice’ on the domain name. Was wondering why the trackback wasn’t coming through :)

  • Tyler Ingram

Which part is missing an S? I haven’t work with trackbacks yet, I have been meaning to look more into that part though for the site.

You’ve got thewrongadvice as opposed to thewrongadvices. I know it sounds wrong but it was sorta the point :) I took it from an Arnie quote.

You’re running a custom script if I remember correctly? Trackbacks come in handy. I like to know when someone has linked to one of my posts.
