Do You Find Technorati Useful Anymore

Writen By Tyler Ingram on Feb 11, 2008
Technorati, Why do you not love me anymore?

I was looking over Technorati earlier this morning when I thought to myself: Is Technorati really useful anymore?

A while ago my blog site was ranked in the low 100,000 with an authority rating of over 80 with more then 90+ fans. Now it seems my blog horribly fluctuates in the high 200,000s to low 300,000, with an authority of sub 30 and roughly 25 fans.

Why is this?

I would say it is because I don’t go around and comment on many blogs like I used to and that Technorati has changed their ranking system over past little bit. Perhaps people have gone through their favorite sites on Technorati and removed me. But over 50 people to does seem a bit odd and it wasn’t over a period of time either it was rather sudden. Perhaps someone out there knows why? Perhaps Technorati only keeps track of people who have recently added me as a favorite? Perhaps the people who in the past that have added me as a favorite no longer exist?

Do you find Technorati to be a reliable service any more for showing how popular you site is? Granted my site isn’t popular but my traffic hasn’t flinched since my Technorati rank and authority went down. In fact my traffic has increased slightly over the past little bit as well.

  • Every service that doles out “authority” is imperfect. I agree with everything you said about Technorati, I guess whether it’s “useful” or not to someone just depends on what he is going to use it for. As for me, I use it as a backup to my blogroll. I’m not exactly sure why, I have just done it that way for months. I like being able to access the sites on my roll in a different manner sometimes.

I like your site and your attitude because as I have followed your changes I have noticed you are honest in the way you present your stats. When and if your blog gets a giant following, you will have my utmost respect because you just call them like they are. If you feel success in your own criteria, then you’re doin’ okay.

  • I continue to check my Technorati rating on a monthly basis when I write my recap posts, although I no longer place much importance on the numbers and have basically lumped it in with Alexa – nice to see increase but not all that important.

  • I’ve yet to notice any improvement at all from being on the site with my own blogs and what not. Then again, I am new to blogging.

  • I have not checked my Technorati rating as much as I used to. Last I looked though it reported in the 100,000 range where previously it was in the 300,000 range. Pretty crazy jump huh? I removed the MyTechnorati badge I has also because the inconsistencies of Technorati’s rank.
