Google Page Rank Plummets

Being a Monday morning one of my daily tasks that I like to do is go over my statistics and view my various blog networks such as Technorati, MyBlogLog, BlogCatalog and see how my various rankings are doing.

I cannot at the moment remember where I saw it but I remember noticing one of the sites in which I have my blog listed in showing that I had a page rank of 0. A Google page rank of 0? WTF? So I started the fun tasks of checking everything I could that has to do with my site and Google.

I looked though the webmaster tools that Google offers and the only issues there is that there are some 404’s because I recently removed some categories from my site other than that my site is still index by Google and in fact the Google Bots crawled my page yesterday and everything else checked out fine. I also noticed that my sitemap is out of date (I guess keeping an up-to-date sitemap of a blog might be a bit tricky) so I am in the process of re-creating it.

I have been recently running some ads that I previously didn’t so I thought perhaps I have been bitch-slapped by Google for doing this, but I just implemented them. I checked on the other sites for which have similar ads (as given to me as examples) and they have still have their Page Ranks.

So now I am wondering if this Page Rank of 0 is currently an oversight (or error?) on Google’s part and hopefully it will be corrected shortly. I mean I am not a link farm, nor do I link to anything that is bad. The other item in Google’s webmaster tools is the feature to show a rough estimation for my page ranks (via a bar graph) for not ranked yet, low, medium and high. My site listed in there show stats for not ranked yet, low and medium, which is where it normally is for when my site was sitting at a Page Rank of 3 to 4.

So do I worry now, or wait to see what happens and look into this further? I mean I’m still indexed by Google which is good and I see no other issues out there. Perhaps someone out there can offer me some insight into my Page Rank plummeting to 0.

Has anyone else noticed something similar to their site?

I also just checked a couple of other sites that keep track of my Page Rank and they still list PR of 3 and it seems my Alexa rank is getting better so that is also good. I am receiving more traffic which means more people are reading my blog. So hopefully this Page Rank plummet is temporary!
