Seriously, I have no idea why our clients ever pay us... but I guess they never look at who else we create sites for, because we use pretty much the same template/structure, but just rebranded. I could see how making $300-$1000 would be nice, but only, like you said if the hourly conversion was worth it, especially if I want to replace my current job, I would have to be able to make at least the same amount I am now. I got into an e-mail shouting match with someone calling themselves an expert SEO. He ranked high for some weird search term that was like 20 words long and was selling his services based on that. His portfolio of sites was crap. He admitted he used templates he purchased for like $10.00... I can't believe that people like them are around! I think I'm pretty good at web design and development and have been programming for the last 15 years (although I don't do programming any more) and am pretty good with PHP/MySQL/C etc., but even I know when to call it quits... The thing that kills me is when I saw a company with zero talent yet their portfolio is a mile long. A friend and I were doing a few sites on the side and had a hard time winning business yet we saw so much garbage out there. The possibility is out there to make a fortune just fixing crummy sites - want to go into business with me? :) Lol, I do the exact same thing quite often to see the company that designed a site and what else they have in their portfolio.
