How To Lose Me As An RSS Subscriber

Written By Tyler Ingram on Apr 16, 2008

One of the things I do on a daily basis is read over my RSS feeds for which I have subscribed to. RSS feeds allow me to check on what is happening with the websites (forums, tech sites, blogs etc) that I find interesting and informative.

Currently I have 33 RSS Feed subscriptions that I read on a daily basis and I am always looking for more that I might find interesting and informative. Though this post isn’t really about how to get me as an RSS Feed subscribe, it really is about why you might lose me as an RSS feed subscriber.

Most people who are in the blogging world and want to make money off of it might know of a particular blog called CashQuests.com. The previous blogger/owner of CashQuests.com was Kimiko and I believe did a good job while keeping the content on her site fresh and interesting (even if it sounded weird or rude) I was still willing to stay subscribed; until now.

CashQuest.com was bought from Kimiko by a separate entity and recently the posts seemed to have gone downhill and repetitive of other people’s findings. Today their newest post was just a repeat of someone else’s post. When I went to go look at the website I found that my comments were not saved. Or were set for moderation but I was not informed of it. I looked at the other posts and their comments and it seemed as no one else has commented on any of their posts? CashQuests used to get a bunch of comments from various people. I thought to inquire about this and clicked on their Contact button. I was forwarded to another website! No easy way to get in touch with them (I was expecting a simple form to fill out) but a bunch of links to show me how I could get in touch with them which isn’t very blog like.

unsubscribed

Since my comment was not saved nor was I informed whether or not it was waiting for moderation as well as the fact I was forwarded to another site to contact them enforced my action of unsubscribing from their RSS Feed. So if you’re a blog and not willing to allow comments I will not subscribe to your feed or unsubscribe when I do not have a way to get in touch with you. So ensure your comment system is working and you have an easy way for people to get in touch with you!

Yeah, a radical change like that would be a reason that I cancel an RSS subscription as well.

Another no-go is an RSS feed that requires me to go to the web page. No thanks, I prefer to read your content the way I want ( which is how it’s supposed to work, from what I understand ). Blogs that only give me snippets to try and force me to visit seem like they’re just looking for page impressions for their ads.

  • There is only one feed I have that is a partial feed but I don’t mind. Other than that Full RSS feeds are the way to go. People think that partial feeds stop people from going to their website. It doesn’t seem to especially if you need to comment, or view the comments made on a post.

CashQuest is long dead from the time it was sold. There is totally no posting till lately and I can’t see how they can get thing rolling again.

I don’t subscribe to it anymore also.
