Izea Ranks: Fact or Fiction

Written By Tyler Ingram on Jan 16, 2008

Well it seems that Izea (aka PayPerPost) has created a sort of ranking system for blogs and I wonder how far it will go. Will it be used for advertising like Alexa, Google’s Pagerank, etc are used? Or will it become a useless popularity contest like Technorati seems to be lately (well for me anyway)?

What do you have to do?
All you need to do is generate a bit of javascript (via your account on Izearanks.com) and insert it in between the ‘head’ tags of your website and it will keep track of a few stats such as unique visitors, active inbound links and daily page views.

How effective will this be for ranking blogs?
I am sure another way of ranking your blog is a good thing right?  IzeaRanks will give higher ranks to those who have the most traffic. Which makes sense, the more popular the blog the more useful the information found on it correct? I don’t see my site ranking in the Top 100 list any time soon but if you receive a decent amount of traffic I don’t see it hurting your blog by setting it up with IzeaRanks. After all more exposure on other networks is a good thing!

You can also be ranked based on category. So if you want to see the Top 100 blogs based on Travel it will list them for you and it will also show you their overall rank too. Even though you may have the number 1 spot for Travel, your blog might be ranked 1,290 overall. It doesn’t tell you how many blogs they keep track of but I am sure it is a lot as it seems anyone who has a PayPerPost account with a blog registered might already have their site tracked. Mine didn’t by default but I’ve had my site on PayPerPost for a while now and have not been to the PayPerPost site since they changed to Izea.

One thing I would like to see would be to have my PayPerPost account link with the IzeaRanks site. I am not sure if they can be linked but having to sign up a separate account for IzeaRanks is a bit of a pain, and I dislike part since they are run from the same online company.
