January 2008 Recap: A Bit About the Affiliate Ads I Use

Writen By Tyler Ingram on Feb 01, 2008

Since it is the beginning of a new month (February) and I am curious what the basic statistics for my site are so that I can display them in all their glory! Well it definitely isn’t anything to brag about but traffic has increased over the past month a little bit.

Earnings from Affiliate Advertising.

I don’t use very many ads on my site really there are only 3 different affiliates on my site and they aren’t really placed in places where they would make me money. Granted I keep saying that you need larger amounts of traffic to generate any sort of revenue when it comes to those Click Through sort of ads like you see with Google’s AdSense or even TTZMedia.

Google Adsense

714 Visits / 1,349 Page Views 970 Visits / 2,213 Page Views
10 Clicks 7 Clicks
Earnings: $1.37 Earnings: $0.30

Currently the only place I have Google’s Adsense ads are below the first post on my index page. This is automatically inserted via Feedburner. I also have them placed on the bottom of the individual post pages which isn’t too intrusive when people are reading posts.

TTZ Media, in my experience, is not made for people who do not receive much traffic. After all, being another Click-Through ads program you need the higher amounts of traffic to generate the higher rate people will click on the ads. Granted I do like TTZ Media ads because they are electronics and you can add keywords for the types of electronics you wish to add but in the past 2 months I have been using them I have generated only  $0.30.

ZTMC – Internet Marketing Management is a relatively new affiliate company that I was approached by and they offered to pay me on a monthly basis (indefinitely) for a simple line of text links at the bottom of my site. They pay me $15 per month which would pay for my hosting needs, if I actually paid for my hosting.

Overall I believe that selling advertising spots for sites that generate smaller amounts of traffic would be more beneficial in gaining a bit of revenue than using those Click-Through type ads such as Google’s Adsense, TTZ Media, AdAuctions etc. By purchasing advertising spaces on a website (preferably above the fold), this would allow for better exposure to daily visitors. Of course the more interesting the advertisement placed on a website the better chance of it generating traffic.

Afterall how many of you who read blogs  or other websites actually click on advertising?

  • Is that supposed to be Jan07, or Jan08?

I’ve found that I don’t earn much money ( or any money, rather ) from Google AdSense. Then again, I don’t really have all that much traffic yet, which is something I’m working on. I’m also trying out Amazon Affiliates, which I think I like a bit more than Google AdSense. Especially since their referral rates are really nice, and they have a nice JavaScript snipit that makes it really easy to have affiliate links. I’ve looked at a few other ways to monetize my blog… but none of them really make any sense until I’ve got some smoking traffic.

  • Oh yea I’ll have that, it supposed to be Jan 08 not 07. lol Thanks!
