The No Compacts Allowed! group set out yesterday afternoon for another fun photowalk. This time we met up at Prospect Point in Stanley Park so we could go venture over the Lion’s Gate Bridge. The turn out was good and in total 9 of us showed up. Yes, there would have been 10 but @ellajoe unfortunately forgot parking money at home, though I am sure we would have pitched in for her!
I walked from the West End to Prospect Point and found out that along the road that follows the seawall, about 30 feet off of it was a trail that runs alongside all the way. It took me from Second Beach, past the miserable looking Hallow Tree (I will be writing a blog post about this later), through the woods and out at Prospect Point. It took me roughly an hour to walk there and with a my full Think Tank Streetwalker Pro backpack, it wasn’t too much trouble.
When I reached Prospect Point, I wandered around the somewhat newly constructed area. I was glad to finally see the lookout finished and accepting the many tourists that were flooding the area.
Eventually we all met up, and started our walk over Lion’s Gate Bridge; the goal was to capture the sun setting from one of the bridge’s towers looking over to the West. I’ll just show some of the photos of mine during the walk.
I definitely wanted to stay on the bridge as the Cruise ship went past underneath, but we didn’t nor did we get back up to the west side of the bridge in time either.
The sunset was pretty nice, though John and Scott were a bit disappointed with no clouds to get the sky more texture.
The moon started to rise between Grouse Mountain and Mount Seymour as we made our way back to the beginning of the bridge.
One thing that I have wanted to do for a while and too lazy to do it has been taking my camera to the little overpass above the causeway that leads up onto the bridge. So that’s what we did, we headed up to it and all of us took long-exposure photos of the traffic going over it.
So that ends the Photowalk which started at roughly 3:30PM to roughly 7:30PM. A lot of walking happens, but a lot of photography happens as well. Is all the walking worth it? Of course it is! Great photos, great people, great time! I am looking forward to the next one that will be happening soon too. If you’re interested in coming out to our next photowalk you’re mor than welcome too! If you don’t have an SLR type camera, bring your point and shoot (aka compact) as well! The more people out, the more fun will be had!

I went climbing instead of coming out to this. Did saw you guys walking across Lions Gate as I drove back from Squamish. I’ll try to come to the next one, assuming I’m not out on some outdoor trip.

I love how you just invited people with compacts to the No Compacts Allowed! photowalks
I’m desperately wanting an SLR…. have been for a while – just that thing called ‘money’ keeps getting the way.
Great shots – the long exposure of the bridge is awesome

Whoa, my favorite, and the one I definitely love is the night shot of the Lion’s gate bridge, it just looks outstanding with all the different lights at night =D
Till then,
Jean
