Local Club Set To Close This Saturday June 9th

Written By Tyler Ingram on Jun 06, 2007

Now I won’t go into much detail because I’ve only been to this bar once but The Drake Showlounge in Vancouver is set to close June 9th 2007 (this Saturday) and a lot of people in the exotic dancing industry of Vancouver are upset that the City of Vancouver has purchased the building. You can read what Trina Ricketts has to say over at orato which is quite informative and left me speechless.

In other words another strip club vanishes to where many others have gone before. Now I understand that there are people out there who would probably be happy that a bar of this type is closing its doors but this also means the loss of jobs for many people. One of Trina’s quotes that would fit is:

“Strip clubs are safe sex work option for women, so each time another club closes, it is one less safe place for women to work.

What will the Drake be used for by the City of Vancouver? Well it seems they will be using it for a resource center for drug addicts as well as housing for them since the Drake (like most clubs) has a hotel attached to it. The employees of the Drake have spent years and various amounts of money to help clean up the community only to find their efforts in vain.

Which club will be next? Well the Cecil is set to close eventually but what next? What are your thoughts on strip clubs?
