Long Distance Breakfast

Well I woke up this morning and just felt blah. You know the feeling right? When you know it’s not going to be a good day and you need to escape from your everyday life? Well that is what I just happened to do this morning at 5am; I escaped!

Well I woke up at 4am by a text message and called back to have a little conversation. The conversation went a bit odd and my gut feeling wasn’t quite up to snuff. I lay in bed for 45 minutes trying to get back to sleep but my body was too awake with thoughts. So what did I decided to do? Go have breakfast up in Whistler, BC!

That’s right I got out of bed, changed into whatever I could find and jumped into the car and drove. Now for those who don’t know it would take on average of 2 hours to get from Vancouver to Whistler and that is usually under normal traffic, but at 5 o’clock in the morning driving up the Sea-to-Sky Highway there was not many people on the road and the construction crews who are expanding and updating the Sea-to-Sky Highway were also not at work yet. I arrived at my destination at 6:30 am. Now you might say hey, you made it to Whistler in 1.5 hours but I made it to the Whistler’s Upper Village in an 1.5 hours which I say is pretty good because the Upper Village is a bit further than the old part of Whistler Village or even the border to Whistler itself.

Whistler Mountain In front of McDonalds - Taken with Motorola Razr V3

So now I am up at Whistler at 6:30 am, so what do I do for breakfast? Well the only thing that I could find up there that was open was a McDonald’s. A nice large orange juice with 2 of those fancy breakfast burritos and I was set.

So after driving around Whistler Village (yes there were people going to the higher elevations to do some skiing and glacier skiing), I decided to turn around and head back home this time without trying to see how fast I could get back. Now my little Corolla is not efficient with gas as it once was (that’s what I get for it being 11yrs old) so I had to fill up in Squamish which is just south of Whistler. Gas prices are roughly the same in Squamish as they are in Vancouver so I topped off my car with $24 of gas and continued on my way.

Shannon Falls - Taken by Motorola Razr V3

I stopped off at Shannon Falls to take a peek at the majestic and towering waterfall that feeds the Howe Sound. Since the weather was not decent enough when I left for my little road trip I did not bring the Canon EOS 350D with me and so I had to use my Motorola Razr to take these totally horrible pictures that do not capture the beauty of this area.

I hung around a bit and thought about my current situation and the events in my life and how I should let them unfold. I can tell you know that my mind is still foggy but I will see how it is after today when I have dealt with one of my circumstances that needs a bit more attention on my part to fully understand what is going on in my life.

If you’re ever in the need of a quick escape and in the Vancouver area (you do need a vehicle for this) I would suggest driving up the Sea-To-Sky Highway towards Whistler and take in the magnificent scenery that our western province has to offer.

On a side note I’d like to mention a few places that you might want to stop off at on the way to Whistler (in no particular order either):
