Making Money On a Blog
Is it possible to make money on a blog?
Of course it is, there are various examples out there where people make enough of an income to support themselves without having to work for ‘the man’. One of my favorite examples of someone making enough money on their blog alone is John Chow. His blog is a plethora of information that a lot of people can find uses for. He also likes to help out other people by explaining ways he makes money off the advertising space he has. Check out one of his more recent postings: Making Money From A Blog – December Recap.
It seems the number one way of making money on a blog is advertising. As you can see on my site I only have Google’s Adsense. I also just recently added the 250×250 AdSense block on my index page and my individual post pages using a <div> tag to float it on the right side of my content. It does not seem to be too obtrusive and the content is still easily readable.
My PageRank (or popularity) is not high enough for some of the other advertising companies due to various factors, such as how new my blog is, and that limits my options. One company I would like to try out would be Text Link Ads, they offer a service of selling advertising spaces on your website in the form of text hyperlinks which other companies can pay monthly prices for. Text Link Ads requires a PageRank greater than mine but I strive to fix that.
As you might know from my previous posts I’ve also signed up and have done some paid posts for PayPerPost. Their service is actually an interesting way of earning a little bit of money. They offer various opportunities of various topics that other companies post for bloggers to write/review about. To date I’ve made $33 USD with two posts which is pretty decent since they requirements were not difficult to meet.
Have I made killer money on my blog?
Nope, and I really don’t expect to anytime soon either. My blog has been around for 6-7 months which is fairly new and the information on it is slowly building. I still get new visitors everyday as well as repeating visitors which is always good. My traffic is fairly steady but of course not where I would like it to be, but hopefully time and content will help with that. Thankfully Google offers a low-end version of their recently acquired web statistic application Urchin called Google Analytics which allows me to look at the various web statistics from my visitors.
So hopefully one day I can be in a position where I can make a small steady form of income off my blog while providing helpful information to those who visit and have fun while doing it. Ideally one of my goals is to make a living from working on the wonderful world wide web in the form of either blogging, web design or both!
