My First Shower In 6 Weeks
As many of you who visit my lovely little site know I had my Achilles tendon surgically reattached due to a recreational sport a little over 6 weeks ago (closer to 7). Anyway today was the day I got to have my cast taken off and to see the back of my lower leg to see what actually had been done.
Today was also the first time I could shower in 6 weeks as well. Now a lot of you hopefully aren’t think that I did not manage to bathe myself somehow. I did and let me tell you, having to give yourself your own sponge bath is definitely not a fun thing to do, especially when you have to balance yourself on one leg.
I was supposed to go from my cast to a walking boot type brace but it seems there was some odd pressure on my foot and it created a lovely blood blister which in size is just a bit bigger than a toonie. The doctor said it was small! It’s the biggest one I’ve ever seen, but because of it, he wanted me to wait until it dried out so he put me into a tensor bandage and I’m still on crutches. I get to wiggle my toes a bit more and move my foot up and down to get rid of some of the stiffness in the smaller muscles.
Now since I am the curious type and I like to see my surgeries and their outcomes of course I took a few pictures of what my foot looks like after my first shower. The first one is not so bad and hopefully it will show you how much my left foot is swollen from lack of use compared to my right one.

My Left Foot is Swollen
Now this is the part where you might not want to look, I know there are some people out there that are squeamish and so I am warning you know, if you don’t want to look… scroll down fast and skip over the image that is below this text.
This is your last warning!!

Not the straightest cut, but its clean!
To me it isn’t that bad, well except for the large blister you can sort of see on the around the side of my ankle and for the peeling skin because being in a for 6 weeks can take its toll on your upper epidermis. The incision is about 5-6” in length and curved (I thought it would have been straight), but seems to be a nice clean line and was told the scarring will be minimal (darn huh?).
So now I get to wait another week to see if the doctor will put me into a walking brace. 7 weeks isn’t bad for crutches is it? I really, really want to walk again, I feel like such a burden to people and there are things I’ve been dying to do but can’t because it involves walking. *sigh*

When I first read the title for this post, I threw up a little in my mouth. The gag reflex is still there . . .
Yea kinda bad not being able to shower
Even though I rigorously sponge bathed.. it just inst the same clean feeling I get when I shower. But its all good! hehe
Wow, that’s definitely a sight to see! Bet you enjoyed that shower, eh? Sponge baths after surgery are NO FUN. That first shower afterward feels sooo damn refreshingly good.
Hope you heal up nicely from here on out!
Shine on,
Aaron
Dang man, I can’t say I’ve ever heard anything like that. Man thats just painful thinking about it I have to cringe now.
Wow Tyler. You’ve been through a lot. Looks like it is healing nicely. I looked at the picture. I’ve had six kids so nothing much makes me squeamish anymore. I hope you get back on your feet soon. Are you in any pain?
No pain, just a bit of discomfort. If i put weight on the foot my heel hurts but I think because my foot is bruised and its not used to having weight on it.
This week I get my brace and then I guess I start learning how to use my foot again.
Thanks for the comments!
