I was on a walk around the downtown core of Vancouver when I started hearing people cheer. Little did I know what was coming up as I was approaching Robson Street from Thurlow. Suddenly nude, yes naked, cyclists just started riding by, one after the other along Robson. Everyone cheering and screaming as about a hundred nude cyclists rode on past one of the busiest tourist streets of Vancouver.
A quick look on the internet when I got back to Robyn’s place (I am using the free internet that I am able to pick off of some near by AP because the person has not set their encryption on – Free Internet FTW) and it seems that today (June 7 2008) that there is a World Naked Bike Ride that was scheduled. World Naked Bike Ride of WNBR is an organization that puts on demonstrations around the Northern Hemisphere today in celebration of cycling and the human body.
people will be riding bikes naked to celebrate cycling and the human body. The ride demonstrates the vulnerability of cyclists on the road and is a protest against car culture.

As I walked behind 3 people the older lady (I am assuming the mother of one of them) mentioned how she was appalled that she was witness to such an event. The other two (which I assume were husband and wife) both said they found it funny and were glad people are able to express themselves in our beautiful city.
I think it’s pretty cool how open our city is compared to those else where in the world and I thought it was humerous to see a bunch of nuke cyclists ride down a touristy street. It was funny to see the expression on the faces of the people walking while these nude cyclists rode by.

i’m from winnipeg, was visiting vancouver and decided to take one last drive around the city before heading back today. we managed to cross paths with these guys twice. the first time we saw them, we kinda thought it was something related to the marathon that had been holding up traffic off and on for the past few days, but after a few cyclists passed we noticed what was going on. the second time we saw them, we were stuck in traffic on granville island. tons of tourists and kids around, the expressions were priceless. good times

Must of been a fun thing to see on a visit to Vancouver huh? I guess the cyclists did get around then. I wonder what the full route they took was.

Hehehe… only in Vancouver! I dare ya to try that in Edmonton! There would probably be an election to vote city council out for approving such an event.
…wouldn’t that also be painful? Ewww… ’nuff said. Going back to work now.

I’m sure there would be a lot of shrinkage if people rode naked in the streets of Edmonton!
