Personal Property at Work
Has anyone had anything left at work that was your own personal property only to come in the next day and find it not in the place where you left it?
I noticed that the other day when I came in my newly acquired Seagate 8GB USB Pocket Drive was not where I left it and decided to investigate. Upon plugging the little pocket drive back into my machine I noticed there were a lot more files on it. Not only were the files various things from my work machines but there were other people’s files on it as well both personal and work related!
Now I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t use someone else’s property (that does not belong to the company) and use it without asking first. Sure there was no harm done to the device but that is not the point, I hate when people take things and not ask first. There are hundreds of other USB drives in the building (majority of the employees have one) and there were two company ones on my desk.
I guess it was more of a ‘ease of use’ thing that allowed them to use it, and I didn’t take it with me either. I guess it just frustrating to know I can’t really keep anything out in the open if I don’t want a fellow co-worker to use it right?
On a side note I did have a $50 Gift Card to local restaurants that went missing from my desk too! But that is probably my fault too for leaving it out. I left it there before I left, forgot to take it with me and it was gone by the morning.

That sucks. This is one reason that I am glad that I have my own office that I can lock at night. The security and cleaning staff can get in but it keeps co-workers out of my things.
Were you able to figure out who used it based on the personal files left on the drive?
Yea my one of my bosses did. Just urks me when people don’t ask. I make sure I take it from my desk or anything I don’t want people to use I store away from their peering eyes!
