Tall Ships in English Bay

ARRRRGH, thar be a couple pirate ships sailing around the Vancouver area. They were part of the event Richmond had during this past weekend; Ships to Shore Steveston 2011. I watched these two from the area on the seawall between English Bay and Second beach as they slowly made their way west under sail. Eventually they were out of the range of my little 300mm lens. Too bad I didn’t know they would be around, else I would have not dottled my way back home and would have probably seen them up closer near Vanier Park.

What some people might not know, is that the ship on the right, the Lady Washington, was the ship called Interceptor in the movie Pirates of the Carribbean. The ship on the right is the Hawaiian Chiftain.

As I watched them sail out of False Creek towards Spanish Banks they were having a little bit of a mock canon battle. I didn’t manage to capture much of the mock fight but it was neat to hear the canons go off periodically. It would be a neat thing to add to one’s bucket list, to be aboard a pirate ship and participate in a mock canon fight.

Nice shots, I just got word the Tall Ship Esmeralda will be arriving August 6th, she`ll be at the Burrard Dry Dock pier until the 10th, if your interested. She`s the second largest Tall Ship in the world should be a spectacular sight going under the Lions Gate bridge. Cheers
