Photography: An Unknown Spider
Once I was off work I arrived at my place and noticed that there was a large dead spider with its leg caught in the garage door. It was of the common wolf-spider variety that I seen around the house and I am glad it was not inside where a spider that large would have freaked me out.
When I moved along to the back of the house I noticed in the corner of an exterior wall another large spider but this particular spider I have not seen before, ever. It sat there as I tried to take a couple of quick macro photos of it but it was a bit awkward to do so.
I put the spider into a cup and moved it to a garden planter so I could get a better angle to photograph it as well as better lighting.

After my little photoshoot it sense that I was down and started to walk away. I put the spider back into the cup, walked over to the fence and dump it over the other side into some bushes. The photos don’t really show it but this spider was fairly large, larger than a golf ball. I also noticed one of its back legs were also hurt and was sitting underneath its body.
Does anyone know what sort of spider this is? Like I mentioned before I have never seen this variety before.

ewwwww that is scary!!
Hopefully it’s the sort of spider that stays away from my wife as she would freak out if she saw this guy.
Great shots though!
Yea I hope not to find one lurking in the house. Next time I’ll have to use something to reference their sizes. The photos don’t show how large this one is.
I’m not sure, but it looks like a variant of the European garden spider, except those usually have kinda striped legs. http://www.dgsgardening.btinternet.co.uk/spider.htm
The rest of the colouring and the size seem to be right though. When James and I lived in Burnaby (and I was suffering from a bit of “empty nest” syndrome after the death of my childhood kitty) we had a large spider something like that on our balcony. I hung out with her out there a lot and named her Charlotte, which is weird cuz I really don’t like spiders. XD
Okay, first off, I am very, very creeped out by spiders!
Are those done with the (if I recall correct) powershot camera that you have? I am very impressed with the macro mode on it if that is…
@TheWeejenny - It is weird how most people are scared of spiders (i’m not totally found of them) but occasionally I’ll get close enough to take shots of them. I remember one spider, when I live in Burnaby and about the size of a softball (wolf variety) I picked up and moved around to get him into better light. yes without a glass/cup or anything too. Creepy? yea but the photos turned out really good when i had them printed… too bad I lost those
@Cam Tardi - Yea they were done with the Canon SD750 in macro mode at wide angle.
Wow that thing is scary. My wife would freak out if she saw it on the screen even. Nice pictures though
Good Photos… but too life-like for me to really appreciate. Not fond of spiders to say the least.
Its beautiful Photos….Thanks for your information.
