I’m always trying to figure out how I can post more frequently as sometimes I can go weeks and weeks without a post. Then again, I can upload photos to Flickr almost every day! So perhaps I can post a couple photos a day here from the photos I capture throughout that particular day. Some will be straight from the camera, some might be post-processed using applications such as Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop or even Photomatix Pro. I like to share my photos, and I do like to write about them too. Perhaps I can aspire other people to take photos as well! Who knows?
Today Robyn and I meandered around Lost Lagoon just to get out and enjoy our fair weather. The Mute Swans were out, various water fowl such as Mallards and Wood Ducks were swimming around. Turtles were out basking, pigeons were flying around in formation and more. I’ve always enjoyed walking around Lost Lagoon, and usually there is something fun to take photos of too.
This little guy (or gal) was sitting on the grass near the path. We stood there for a while as I took photos and it eventually laid down. A bit odd for a raccoon, as they normally head back off into the bushes when people approach. So it was weird to watch this one just sit, then lay down. I even got down on my stomach to take photos, I always find that when you can get to the level of the object you’re shooting (like animals, children etc) the photos have a bit more something to them. Hopefully this little guy was feeling ok and was not sick, just kind of weird to see it act like this.
There are numerous squirrels around Stanley Park, most of them are skittish when people approach, but you do run into one that seems to favour humans and will come right up to you. We’ve also seen chipmunks in Stanley Park and if you head over to the Capilano Watershed area, you might also get a glimpse of flying squirrels too!
A few days ago Robyn and I headed over to Granville Island so she could meetup with our friend Laura. As they were having lunch together I wandered around the island looking at the various shops and exhibits. One place I walked into had a gallery of black and white photography that showcased various places of Vancouver.
The above photo is my attempt to do something similar to one of the photos I saw there. I thought I would try and shoot it on our way back home today and see if I could convert it to black and white. Now, never shooting black and white film before I don’t know the true process of converting a colour image into a black and white. I just switch to grayscale in Lightroom and played around with the levels. I liked how the image above turned out, what do you think?
There you have it, perhaps I can keep this up as an on going series here on my site, I am sure I have enough photos to do it.

That raccoon is unbelievably adorable! That’s also a really great shot of Laura and Robyn! Nice work once again, Tyler.

Great photos Ty! Nice one of me and Robyn, and I really love the black & white of the Sylvia Hotel.

I’ve shot in black and white film before, and it’s incredible. Compared to color film, black and white has INCREDIBLE contrast. Despite how good digital cameras are, it’s going to be a looooong time until they can come anywhere near the clarity of b&w film.
