Photos from Today

Written By Tyler Ingram on May 06, 2010

The weather here in Vancouver has been pretty good lately and today I managed to venture out into the surrounding neighbourhood here in the West End of Vancouver.

In the morning I ventured out with my buddy Keith around Lost Lagoon in search for the local Hummingbirds. We did not see them this morning, but we do know the locations of their new haunts.

Also the Mute Swan Cygnets have yet to hatch, though it seems one pair is making yet another nest on the southern shore of the lagoon. There are about 4 nesting sites for the local Mute Swans, one nest (we saw today) has about 6 eggs in it. I do have some humorous footage of one female mute swan trying to pull a piece of bamboo over and over again but since it was attached, it would just fling back into the water on her. Too bad I can’t get my video editing software to work properly to load the short 30-second clip.

Bridge over Water

Then when Robyn came home from work (btw she’s LOVING her new job!) we went for our little walk down to the Inukshuk at English Bay. No, I did not see the Gray Whale that has been visiting False Creek, though it would be cool to see it. I unfortunately saw the result of a Gray Whale hitting the bow of a cruise ship late last year though.

Flips

Crazy fit guy doing flips and such on the sand. He was crazy flexible too! You’ll also notice the people in the background, the girl in the water (her boyfriend/fiance? off camera right) getting photos done by a photographer. I always get weird looks when I carry my big white lens out and about, including other photographs gawking at it.

Clouds

I love cloud formations. I have always found them fascinating since learning about them in elementary school and then again in highschool. I wish we had storms (electrical ones) like the prairie provinces have, but unfortunately we rarely do. We do get to see some pretty large clouds form as they pass over our local mountains en-route to the Rockies and beyond though.

Inukshuk in West End

Yup, no trip to the Inukshuk is complete without taking a photo of it. I wonder if it’s the most photographed landmark in all of Vancouver. Well it’s one of the more popular ones anyway. Anytime I’m near it there is at least 4 people taking photos of it from various angles.

Cool bumble bee shot. Looks more like a space ship.
