Photos From Today
It seems there was a bit of a break between rain showers here in Vancouver, so Robyn and myself got out on to the Seawall for a bit of a walk while the sun was out.
Last time I did not bring my camera with us, but this time I did bring the camera along.
It almost looks as if this Totem pole is in the middle of the woods, but it’s not. It’s part of the Totem display in Stanley Park. I thought I would process it through Photomatix and play around with the levels a bit. I do like it more than the original photo itself.
Along our walk I decided to play around with the built-in flash on my Canon XSi. As from my last post about using a flash, I thought I would try my hand at using the built-in flash as a fill light. It didn’t do a bad job. I had took a couple shots and notice I had to dial down the flash’s power a bit to get the background to show up properly, but the end result was nice.
We cut into Stanley Park at the path that leads to Beaver Lake. Beaver Lake itself was flooded and spilling over the path around the edge of the lake. There were various birds flying about as well, a couple of Towees and a bunch of Chested-Backed Chickadees. I put some crushed up leaves into Robyn’s hand and asked her to hold her hand out. At first Robyn was a bit scared for a bird to land on her hand, but I reassured her it wouldn’t attack her. The chickadee just landed and checked out what was in her hand (as you can see in the above photo). Robyn had an incident in Austriala where she was bombarded by Rainbow Parakets, who’s beaks and claws are much larger than that of a chickadee, so I can see why she might be a bit hesitant to try this for me. We’re going to get bird seed next time and see how many chickadee or other small birds we can get to land on Robyn!

Tyler, the image of the totem pole took my breath away….You have such a great eye.
I agree with Karen – that totem pole picture is unreal. It almost looks like it’s HD
