Well today again has been a great sunny day here in Vancouver and of course I got outside with my camera. I would have liked to wake up earlier this morning so I could have caught the sun rising in the East but due to crappy sleep, I opted to stay in bed a bit longer.
Since I have had a lot on my mind lately, mainly school. I decided to only walk to Lost Lagoon, along it’s northern side, and then back home via Coal Harbour.
A chubby little black squirrel trying to stuff whatever he can find into his face. I find that squirrels can be either pretty docile and even friendly enough to come up to your feet, or they are extremely skittish and dive for cover when humans are about.
I always enjoying standing around having Chickadees and other small birds fly around me. I guess they think I’m going to feed them, I do plan on bringing bird seed with me, but I guess I’ve been a bit too lazy to go out and get seed for them. Chickadees are probably the most curious bird around Lost Lagoon as they will fly right up to you, hover and dart off to land on a nearby branch. Though 20 minutes of them doing this without them being fed makes then eventually leave the area all together in a hunt to find someone who is more than willing to feed them.
I thought this was a chipmunk and his movements had me believe it. Though, looking at this particular photo he looks more like a grey squirrel! Perhaps I need glasses?
Now I probably should read up on Great Blue Herons, but I can always find one in the trees near the pond next to Georgia Street. There is ever only one, and they are always in the same spot. Perhaps Heron’s do like to camp out in their favourite spots over and over again. Actually while I am typing this out, 2 buildings over there is another Great Blue Heron perched at the top of a neighbouring building. During Autumn and Winter there is always one there too.
So what will tomorrow’s photos yield? I”m not entirely sure. Though Robyn and I will be both attending Capilano Suspension Bridge’s Canyon Lights event that is held from now until January 2nd 2010 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm daily. Should be a lot of fun, and I’ll have my camera/tripod along with me too!

You’re quickly becoming an avian photography expert!
I really like the Heron photo… that’s something you don’t see a lot… I’ve actually never seen one!

If you come hang out over at Lost Lagoon you’ll always see a heron. In the spring they have the area around the FishHouse/ParksBoard building all surrounded with heron nests too
