Photos from Yesterday

Yes, I am one of the few who hope it snows in the city, well at least have the snow stick. Why though? Well I enjoy taking photos out and about when there is snow on the ground.

While our friend Kathleen was in town visiting us after her excellent adventure from New Zealand, Fiji and Borneo, we thought it would be fun to go outside on a little photowalk at least one before she heads back home in the East. Unfortunately Robyn had to work, which sucks because it wasn’t that bad of a day to get outside.

So where did we go for out little walk? Lost Lagoon of course!

Feed the birds.. tuppens a bag...

Where's the Grub?

With the colder days settling around us here in Vancouver, I find that more and more people are leaving large amounts of seed in various areas around Lost Lagoon for all the little birds to snack on. Hopefully they help keep the birds stuffed throughout the Winter months. What is fun though, is to put seed in your hand and hold your hand out. Chickadees (as well as other small birds) will land on your hand, peck a seed and fly off. If you’re really special, you will get more than 1 of them landing on your hand at the same time. It almost tickles as their little talons cling on to your fingers.

Squeek! Drake Chillin'

Irridescent

With the Winter season approaching we seem to get a variety of water foul at Lost Lagoon. Yup you see the typical Mallards (drake with the green head above) as well as some other ducks. The larger duck photo(directly above) , I believe is a Common Goldeneye, though if that is incorrect please comment below and I’ll change it in the post here.

LEDs

We headed over to Coal Harbour towards Canada place and scoped out Grouse Mountain with its fresh snow. The above photo is of the LEDs in the display above the entrance of the parkade of Canada Place. It’s neat to see an array of LEDS make up a display. RGB (red, green blue) LEDs are of course used and you can see the various colours which are activated to make up whatever is being displayed.

We headed back towards the Granville Street area, to Robson Street and then back home to the West End. Overall it took about 3 hours and was nice to get outside even if it was a wee bit chilly.
