PHTG 1048: Week 8

So last night during our PHTG 1048 class we had a demo with the studio. Our instructor explained the safety rules while working in the studio and then how to go about setting up the strobes and their modifiers.

For our next week (Week 9) we will be doing photos with models in the studios for the following lighting styles:

  • Rembrandt
  • Butterfly
  • Split
  • Backlight

Our instructor went over each style of light, first showing us a variety of photos from each style, explaining how the light is positioned relative to the model and camera, and then demonstrated it with a live model in the studio.

The above photo (taken with iPhone of course) is to show how we were to position the light (on the right) with the softbox. I believe we were setting this shot up for Rembrandt style. We even get to trigger them with PocketWizards, which I am also looking forward to. I will for sure upload my results from next week’s shoot. Though, I need to look for examples on the internet, create a tear-sheet of shots I want to try and then direct each model at each station.

This is where my shyness will kick in. I just have to do it, get over my shyness and direct the model to do my bidding…er I mean to pose the way I want them to pose. Right? I just have to photograph more people, so if anyone out there would like me to photograph them, please feel free to get in touch with me! The more people I can photograph, the less shy photographing people I will become.

I am looking forward to next weeks shoot!
