Powell Street Photowalk

Writen By Tyler Ingram on Aug 27, 2009

I attended my first group photowalk that was organized by a couple of people via Facebook. I received an invite from John Biehler and though it would be cool to see what a group photowalk might be all about.

The meeting spot took place at the intersection of Victoria Drive and Powell Street, at the JJ Bean coffee shop. It was cool to meet up with new people as well as see some friendly faces and I was curious as to what goes on during a group photowalk.

After we all got together and people got their caffeine fix we headed east along Powell street stopping off at the various cul-du-sacs in the area.

The area is pretty interesting actually as Powell runs parallel with the CN Railway and Port of Vancouver. We even got yelled at by the Port Authority Security Patrol for being on the tracks, well Jeremy did anyway. We stopped off at a nearby Starbucks, got another caffeine/water injection and headed a little bit further west to about Heatley Street. We ducked down one of the side alleys which was even more interesting than the regular streets, this is where we slowed down and took a billion photos.

Overall the photowalk took about 3 hours. It was great to talk to the people in attendance about not only photography but whatever else everyone found interesting. I look forward to any other photowalks that might come up in the near future too!

If you are interested in any of these up coming photowalks in and around the Vancouver area, check out their Facebook Group.

You can check out some of the other photos I took over at my Powell Photowalk Flickr Set.
