Protecting my Apple iPod Nano: zCover

Writen By Tyler Ingram on Dec 24, 2006

As I recently received an early Christmas present my new Apple iPod Nano (4GB Green) I was asked to find a new case prior to using it because the finish of this 2nd Generation Nano is as susceptible to scratches as the previous generations. So I went to my local electronic store (after visiting their website) and found a cover that seemed to do what I wanted it to do; protect but not cover up the green finish.

I managed to find a protective sleeve made by a company called zCover. They make various protective products for various electronic gizmos and they use rubberized silicon to do it.

As you can see from the various product shots I took I did choose the clear silicon sleeve for my iPod Nano.  This allowed me to still show of that fact that I had the green body which, green is one of my favorite colors.

The zCover sleeve also comes with a removable lanyard and a hard screen protector both are bonuses especially the hard screen protector because on many electronic gadgets such as PDAs, the screen is usually the first thing to get scratched.

Installation of the sleeve is really easy; just slip it over the iPod Nano and volia! It fits like a glove.

Now you might wonder how I connect the USB cable to my iPod Nano without removing the entire zCover sleeve. Well they were nice enough to make the bottom portion of the sleeve be ‘unwrapped’ from the rest of the unit. This allows easy access to plug in your cable so you can upload your favorite tunes.  One thing that I do not show is that they have a hold in the location of stereo plug so that you can easily attach your earphones or headphones without having to remove the sleeve.

Overall I like the design of the zCover sleeve and being my first Apple iPod Nano accessory I definitely will enjoy having it protect the precious metallic finish, while allowing the color show through unlike the leather cases I’ve seen from other manufacturers.
