RSS Feed: Partial or Full

Writen By Tyler Ingram on Jan 08, 2007

Now one thing I’ve noticed is a lot of other sites offer a Full RSS Feed whereas I do not. Though I was thinking, should I go to a Full RSS Feed?  My thoughts behind using a Partial RSS feed was that if they got enticed enough they would have to visit my site and read the full post and possibly reading other posts.

On the other hand people offer Full RSS feeds so that they do not have to visit the site. Does this not hamper traffic to the site? Sure it saves in bandwidth because you’re only checking one file, but then your ads are not being looked at unless of course you have some in your RSS Feed which seems to be the new thing.

So I am currently stuck, do I keep my Partial RSS Feed and perhaps increase the amount of words shown in it, or do I go with a Full RSS Feed and fix my image links so that they also show up properly?

What do you prefer? A Full RSS Feed or a Partial RSS Feed.  I guess even though I am subscribed to a few RSS Feeds that are full, I still visit their website to post comments or look at previous posts so it seems to go either way right?

  • Hey Tyler,

I found your blog from a link in the comments on johnchow.com. I subscribed to your rss feed, and I actually live in Pitt Meadows too.

I actually don’t have a preference between the Full or Partial RSS feeds, as once I see a new post in my feedreader (GreatNews), I open the link in Firefox. I prefer to see the layout of the site, as I read posts.

  • Hey Bill,

Thanks for stopping by. You’re like me, I still stop by the site after looking at the feed.

    Thanks!
