My position doesn't exist in that salary calculator, but I did find it amusing when it asked for company size. Where's the option for, um, one? Haha, I guess it'd be the under 100. :)

Yup - I know I'm not making what I should. The solution? Look around! Seriously I do wonder about these surveys, how much is truth and how much is fabricated by the individual. What irks me more than anything is companies that have salaries all over the place - meaning two people doing the same job, one is grossly underpaid for the same job. I'm a Director of Customer Service & Operations and we went through a salary standardization a year ago for all our agents. Made quite a few people very happy!

Yea I guess I won't look into it, though the amount isn't a bad thing. I guess I would like to know roughly how much people in my area industry make.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to these things. When I was working full time in IT I often used to look at the industry average (for the UK) and it would have you believe that everybody was earning £65,000+ with a company car. I was happy earning half of that, makes you wonder where these averages really come from, I certainly didn't know anybody in a similar role earning the average?

That is true, but I guess it would be nice to make more no matter where I am right? But when i see this average or the one over on Monster.ca, or another employment website even the low averages are higher.

I guess what would be nice is to find out how much other people get paid for similar tasks to mine to see if I could be making more right? I have talked to my employer about what 'others get paid' and they said that's crap and they already pay me too much.*shrug*

I think you need to take into consideration the number of organizations polled to deliver the results. It is likely less that 30 and also likely to be based on the input of the people making the money, rather than the organizations paying the money - and we know that most people exaggerate their salary on polls.

At the end of the day, if you feel like you could be making more money, or that you are worth more - you should seek out alternative offers and present them to your employer if you're happy where you are.

Companies will always pay as little as they need to in order to get the job done.
