Save the Bloedel Conservatory Photowalk
The No Compacts Allowed! Facebook group recently did a daytime photowalk at the Bloedel Conservatory at Queen Elizabeth Park here in Vancouver. What I didn’t know until we got there, was that the Vancouver’s Park Board is planning on closing down the Conservatory due to budget cuts and such. They too have a Facebook group called Save The Blodel Conservatory.
The Bloedel Conservatory is home to many types of tropical plants as well as some awesome exotic birds. It’s a great way to spend part of the day looking around at the various plant and animal life they have. This photowalk will be the second time I’ve actually gone, the previous time was with my cousin Brennan. Admission into the conservatory is $5 and is well worth the money.

As many of you probably have noticed, I’m not in doing floral shots, but I’ve come to realize perhaps I should take more photos of the areas I am in while playing with my camera. I know Robyn was mentioning how I didn’t take many photos of the rain forest while in Costa Rica, and if I think about it, I feel bad I didn’t do it. So here is a photo of the vegetation!

Gus let me borrow his Canon EF-S 60mm 2.8 Macro lens too, if I bought my regular tripod I might have gotten some decent shots of things though. It’s hard to keep a camera steady when you’re manually focusing on items no larger than your pinkie nail.

I’m always up for taking photos of birds, I guess I am a birder at heart. Perhaps one day I’ll be able to have enough spare money to afford a $6000 400mm prime lens for some better birding photos. Or I could look at the Canon EF 100-400 f5.6 IS lens in the mean time.

We hung out a while inside the Bloedel Conservatory, I think I completed about 4 or 5 laps around the place. Had to dodge a few amount of people to as it was fairly busy. We headed outside as the rain stopped and headed over to the fountain (which I don’t remember being there last time I was there).

As per usual the photowalk was a lot of fun, some new people came out and some of the regulars came out and we all enjoyed ourselves. You can check out the No Compacts Allowed! Flickr Group for more photos from other people (as well as myself).
If you want to join us at our next photowalk, it will be on January 17th (Sunday) from 17:00 to 20:00 for our evening/night photowalk (weather permitting). It looks like we might head over to Chinatown in Vancouver.

I spent my Sat building a snowcave and doing other shenanigans it was rad. Hoping to make it to the next photo walk.
