Sony Ericsson Unveils 8.1 Megapixel Camera Phone

I have been looking at various cellphones lately (recently did a review on the Sony Ericsson K850i) and I have been recently informed that Sony Ericsson has unveiled the first ever 8.1 megapixel camera phone. That’s right a cellphone that currently out does the resolution of my current digital camera, though not by much.

The new C905 Cyber-shotâ„¢ from Sony Ericsson allows consumers around the world to capture and share vivid photos whatever their needs, photography skills or budget. Whether it is a compact camera phone with prestige good looks, or a real alternative to a digital camera, Sony Ericsson has the phone for the job. [Sony Ericsson Press Release]

Some of the features I am looking forward to seeing if I can get my hands on one is obviously testing out the 8.1 megapixel camera portion to see the quality of photos. Sony Ericsson has also included a 2GB Memory Stick Micro (normally manufactures give you some crappy small sized one like 512MB). Another feature I think that will be a great selling point for this cellphone is that it has built-in GPS though it might be limited as it only mentions being able to Geo-tag photos.

Though talking to Rod we discussed how we find it really odd that celluar companies charge monthly fees for a free service. Though I guess you subscribe to their GPS systems on their cellular towers or something, but that’s another story.

Would you be interested in a phone that offers a 8.1 megapixel camea, GPS, scratch-resistant screen and more? Sounds like Sony Ericsson is trying to stay in the market against manufacturers such as Apple (iPhone), RIM (Blackberry), and HTC with their smart-phones.
