Have you ever walked the Stanley Park Seawall in Vancouver? I’ll bet that the majority of our visitors (and residents) to Vancouver have. Well for those who don’t know about the Stanley Park Seawall will find that it is in the west end of the downtown city core of Vancouver and spans the perimeter of Stanley Park. It takes roughly 2 to 3 hours to walk around the entire wall but offers you various beautiful photo opportunities along the way.
When I am visiting Robyn in the West End I try and make time for us to hit the Seawall and either walk it, rollerblade it and now even jog it to enjoy the scenery, the ocean and more recently the wildlife.

Raccoon Surprise! Taken with SonyEricsson W580i
While on our most recent adventure to the Seawall we passed by an open Garbage container and while we walked by a Raccoon jumped out and stood on the edge looking at us. He just stayed there and watched us watch him. Then he decided to jump back into the garbage and root around a bit. I walked up a bit closer to see if he would jump back out but he was too happy inside the garbage container to even notice I was looking in.
I tend to see a lot more raccoons in the West End than I see out in the Fraser Valley where I live. When I leave Robyn’s place in the morning and walk to my car there is usually a raccoon or two near my car huddled underneath a nearby tree. Sometimes I wonder if a Raccoon will jump out at me from underneath my car but so far they have not.

I tend to see more wildlife (of the four-legged variety) downtown too. I’ve only seen two skunks in my life, and they were both in the West End.
First one I almost got with my car, but thankfully missed. Second one was just walking down an alley and I pointed it out to my wife. She thought it was a funny looking cat until she took a closer look. Then she realized what it actually was.

I’ve seen a few skunks running around too and really try not to get close to them. I have yet to see any bears and I’ve heard there are one or two in Stanley Park.
