‘Tis The Season Yes?

Writen By Tyler Ingram on Nov 18, 2008

How do you tell winter season is coming up quickly? Is it the chill in the air, the lowering of the snow line on the local mountains? Perhaps it’s the retail stores that were stocking Christmas items before it was Halloween?

It seems the people here in Vancouver know winter is coming when Starbucks releases their red cups. I guess being in the second week in November it might be close enough to the winter season or perhaps not but people seem to go crazy over these silly red cups.

So what type of things reminds you the winter season is coming? Are you looking forward to the winter season? When I talk to people about winter and snow they cringe and try to hide. I love winter, mainly because it means my birthday is going to be arriving. It also means that I can strap my snowboard on, head up to the local mountains (and Whistler/Blackcomb) with Robyn and friends.

I hope it start snowing more on the local mountains. I have some plans for snow photography this year. I’ve made Christmas cards with my photos before and people loved them, so I thought I would try doing it again this year.

So what are you looking forward to this winter season?

  • Ah ha! I think that product shot was with your lightbox right? Gorgeous shot!

I agree with you. It needs to snow. NOW!

What kind of snow photography are you thinking about?

  • What I look forward to the most is the peaceful quiet that can only be found on a snowy winter night. The best example that I have is the Christmas I spent in Scotland, nothing tops sitting in the court yard of the local Kirk. Lights illuminating the snowflakes as they dance towards the earth, and looking up into the dark sky and feeling them as they fall on my face.
Nothing beats the sound of snowflakes on a beautiful silent night.

  • Actually that shot was done here at work with a compact-digi 5MP camera and a $2000 lightbox. Still though my DIY lightbox does pretty good.

As for photography I am waiting for the larger dumps of snow so I can head up to the local mountains and get shots of trees buried in the snow :)

  • I’m looking forward to 10 days of family time. Then back to the grind for me!

  • I don’t understand the early rush for the stores to get Christmas decor and merchandise out, either. It’s insane! I am looking forward to some great homecooked food, and I love ringing in the new year. I can’t believe it’s almost here already!
