Viewsonic Q191wb 19 inch widescreen LCD Monitor

Written By Tyler Ingram on Dec 28, 2006

Well I picked up myself a little gift today the Viewsonic Optiquest Q191wb 19″ widescreen LCD monitor and I have mixed feelings about it.

Notice my lovely Monsoon Speakers. Flat is definately Phat!

At first I thought ok, I was told this had a DVI input, but alas, it does not. I also noticed after hooking it all up that the quality was so-so. I loaded the drivers from Viewsonics website for the 64bit OS and it did clear up the image abit. It still isn’t as sharp as my dual Samsung monitors that I have at work. But then I didn’t pay all to much for this monitor either.

After my gift certificate I only paid $149 CDN. I think that’s a pretty decent deal. Though because I have mixed feelings I believe I will be taking it back next week after I have tried it out for a bit longer. There is something about it that bugs me. Though as I type this out the monitor is shaking from my fingers hitting the keyboard. That’s not a good thing now is it?

Games seem to do pretty well with it too. I loaded up WoW and played for a litle bit, luckly World of Warcraft supports 1440×900 resolution and it does look good.

Upon exiting WoW though I noticed that the monitor’s image tended to go south. I mean that the fonts were all buggered up and hard to read as if I was at a lower resolution. I had to go into my Display Properties select a different resolution and then revert back to 1440×900 to fix the problem. Could it be a driver issue? Possible I did notice the problem when I loaded the drivers that I downloaded from Viewsonic’s website and rebooted the machine. Not many manufactuers have decent 64bit drivers.

So again, I do have mixed feelings about the Viewsonic Optiquest Q191wb, but I probably will take it back to the store and pick an LG 19″ LCD monitor since there were in the same price range.

All I know are the drivers Viewsonic have are these ones: http://www.viewsonic.com/support/drivers/drivers.cfm?category=2&formName=monitor

Other than that, I’m not sure where else you might find them. Assuming that’s what you’re asking because I know next to nothing in spanish :(

That’s interesting I always thought that Viewsonic made some pretty reliable monitors. That’s of course going by what I hear as I’ve never actually used one. Speaking from experience I highly praise LG monitors. I have a 20.1 inch widescreen Flatron from LG and it’s wicked. It’s such a good monitor I can’t even notice a difference when switching between DVI and VGA input. It has a 2000:1 contrast ratio which is pretty rare and responds very fast. Oh and it doesn’t shake when you type, an added bonus.

I’ve normally have had positive experienecs with Viewsonic but unfortunately with their Optiquest line this has put a bad notch in my books for their brand.

I’ve always liked Samsung (I’ve reviewed a few of their monitor back in the day for Futurelooks and I was going to by the LG 20.1 LCD but the store I was looking at didn’t have any in stock and they were not planning on replenishing for a few weeks.
