Yea I took down this webserver today and installed Ubuntu on it. Installation was quick and painless. Though remember with Unbuntu, never delete the host file else you cannot use sudo. Tomorrow morning I will have to recover the host file by booting the machine into recovery mode and using root's powers.
On the plus side I did manage to get the GD2.0 Library installed. Now my thumbnail script works. You should be able to see the thumbnails below for a better example.
The image below is that of World of Warcraft's Pirate Bay, the small shot surely doesn't do the game any justice though. Devina is not mine, Sharkbait is though.

While your at it you may want to sudo passwd root
. I like the thumbnails btw!

Naw, no point in making a root account, I fixed the issue by going into the recovery mode. Yay me.
Now I just need to learn flash to come up with some sorta cool slideshow thingy for the images.
Yeah, you can also boot with root access by adding “init=/bin/bash” to GRUB. You’ll probably haveto mount the filesystems and such manually since many things won’t be initialised (usually init is set to /sbin/init) but it’s another good way of getting access to an otherwise bricked system
.
