What’s Been Going On?

Written By Tyler Ingram on May 01, 2009

Some people might look at my post count for April and wonder what has happened. As I sit here and type this out I look back during April and noticed I have only posted 2 things! That really isn’t much, especially when my goal would be at least once a day. Obviously that goal is a bit harder than I would have expected it to be. How many people out there can consistently post a new blog post every day? I try and think of what sort of posts I can write about, that would fit along the lines of what I typically talk about, but I either get side-tracked or writer’s block. Most of the time it is the latter.

So what has been going on in the world of Tyler Ingram?

There were a total of 2 posts in April. I should be ashamed! And because of that I’ve seen a drop in traffic. Not something I would like to see happen more often of course.

I have learned that WordPress is easily updated via the administrative backend. You can actually have WordPress FTP plugin updates as well as core files directly from the WordPress Repository. That’s pretty cool! I used to go to the WordPress site, download the plugins and core files manually, unzip them, then upload them back to my site. It was too many steps that stopped me from updating my various WordPress files. Now, it doesn’t take very long to do! You can check out my brief tutorial on how to Update your WordPress Plugins.

I need to better organize my time in regards to blogging as well. I need to think more along the lines of particular posts that, not only do I enjoy talking about, but can also be helpful to the people who read my site. I know people still come here because my RSS subscriber numbers keep increasing! I just need to keep posting to keep people coming back for more.  There will be some upcoming reviews so I can start with those!

Now just because I have not been posting lots here on Tyler Ingram dot Com, doesn’t mean I am not keeping busy in the online world.

I have been working diligently on writing little posts about my adventures in photography. Robyn and I also attended the Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival which was great! I was a volunteer photographer for the time we spent up there and it was a lot of fun. Here are some links to the various assignments I had while we were up there:

I have a few more in the works as well. I am really enjoying photography and part of me thinks that with the amount of blog posts I can write in regards to it, I should have kept my photography posts part of Tyler Ingram dot Com.

Happy Planet Shots

Thought I would just throw that photo into this post to add a bit more colour. Happy Planet did a new product launch in Whistler during the Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival with their new Shots. So far I have only tried the Immunity one and it tasted like a fruit/herb type iced tea (without it being cold). I noticed that local retailers were selling them for like $2.50 or higher, we got them for free and could continue to get them for free while we were in Whistler. Monster Energy drink was also giving out their product all the time. They had truck loads coming in everyday to replace the amount they were giving out. All of Whistler was buzzing with the amount of Caffeine people were on.

Typically, Robyn and I have tried to keep up with the posts for our co-written blog WestCoast Alpine, though with our busy schedules we have not been writing to it as much as we would like to. The nice thing about the name we decided on was that not only can we use it doing the Winter season, but we can continue to write on it all year round. We look forward to camping, and hiking trips as well as whatever other outdoor activities we well get ourselves into this year.

Other Happenings

There isn’t a lot more that has been really happening. I have had a couple more ads bought via TextLinkAds here on Tyler Ingram dot Com. I’ve been using their newer system which places text link ads within the content of my site. So they are not as standoutish like single links on the sidebar. I get to check the link prior to approving it so I know it goes to some site that is relatively useful. Looking forward to seeing how that goes.

My Google AdSense continues to keep going, it seems I make roughly $12 per month with them. 3 more months and I should receive another Google AdSense cheque.

We’re booked for 2 nights of camping in Tofino, BC. Which will go along side our week long stay at Hornby Island and then 3 days in Victoria. We’re looking forward to that, but it isn’t till June. It looks like we haven’t booked ourselves for very much in May.

So for now, I will continue getting out and taking photos, try and blog more here on Tyler Ingram dot Com as well as try and get out to more of the local blogging meetups that seem to happen here and there. Perhaps a WordPress camp is in order again? I wonder if having them every 6 months would be too much?

What have you been up to in the past little bit?

I must say it is very hard to post every day. I usually find myself posting an average of 3 posts per week.

I still do all my updates manually for the plugins and what not… I guess i just fear putting my password information, etc and getting it leaked somehow.

When I was doing my c4ac thing, I was going crazy trying to think up daily posts to write. Normally I try and post at least 4-8 times a month.

I don’t know how someone people can just write 500 word posts once a day or more then once a day.

Maybe a wordpress camp once a year.. the tweet ups are nice but I find having them always downtown at 5pm doesn’t help those who are still stuck at work or don’t work downtown. (having them in different locations once a month would get more people out I think..)

I started to do my newsletter today and ran up against the same problem as you … what on earth am I going to write about. Seems when I am faced with a blank screen it is harder to generate ideas … so I try and keep a running list of ideas I can go to whenever I need to … So today’s newsletter will focus on LUMPY MAIL! … YEP, just like it sounds. Mail with lumps in it, who can resist opening it.

I run into the same block with twitter. Hmmmm, what can I tweet about (that isn’t about me eating or going to the can) … so back to the same list, and the topic of the day appears to be … lumpy mail!
