Why I Dislike Blogger Comment Sections
During one of my daily Blog Hopscotch runs I noticed that a couple of the sites I visited, in particular Blogging to Fame, are run on Blogger and there is definitely one thing about those two services I dislike the most out of all the blog type software I have seen in my relatively short blogging life; Comments.
When you go and click on a Comment link on a Blogger blog site, you are taken to a different page (that usually has some default, ugly comment style) and it displays the comments but not the content. Of course you can view the content, but you have to click on the Show Original Post link for it to display what the blogger had to say.
It is nice you can choose one of three identities; Blogger Account, Other or Anonymous. But I prefer to post as Other so that I can put the URL of my personal custom-made blog in the comment section in hopes I’ll get a better chance of people visiting.
Now since I’ve never really used Blogger or another blog-running web service, I never really got into the rest of the sites. I suppose most people use Blogger because a) it can be run via your Google Account now, b) its free! And c) it’s been around for a while. I personally would rather go with Wordpress.com (yes it’s the free hosted version of the WordPress software) but then again, I only used that for a day too until I found out I could download the WordPress software.
Anyway I’m getting away from my topic. So if anyone out there uses Blogger for their blogging service, why do you use it and how much do you dislike their Comment section or do you like it over the other blogging services out there?

I have a blogger or blogspot (I always get them mixed up..) account only to post on friends blogs..but I hate the comment sections very much! So annoying.
I recommend wordpress.com to anyone needing a free blog.
By the way, if you are interested in adding things to your blog..may I suggest cookie functionality for the Name, Email and URL fields of the comment form? I hate typing them in on blogs, but for some reason no one has cookies..
hrmm it’s suppose to be working with cookies. The cookie’s saved the information for me anyway.
I’ll take a look into it though and see if other people are experiencing the same thing.
Thanks for stopping by!
It’s true that blogger’s comment section is not only ugly but also not enough convenient to put comments. There are few big blogger based blogs who have edited their templates and made comments section integral part of template and not requiring bloggers comment, just for an example it’s labnol.blogspot.com.
And still if anybody looking for free hosted version of blogs, bloggers comes out to be the BEST option, as hosted version of Wordpress doesn’t allow adding Ads or PPC.
Oh didn’t know about Wordpress not allowing PPC or Ads makes sense since they are offering a free service they don’t really want you to make money right?
Yaa actually in wordpress this the problem so the people looking to start new blogs and also want to put ads and all will have to get their hosting. Now it’s the one reason why Google rules the world. Just be ethical and google would all the way supporting. I would be soon shifting my blog and I am more into going for some CMS.
Yup. No ads permitted on a wordpress.com site. But as Divya mentioned, download from wordpress.org and install on your own machine and you can fill your boots with all the monetization you like.
Bill: I don’t have the cookie issue. My name and URL were pre-filled after I left my first comment. I use Firefox as my browser and I think that the Tools-Options-Private Data checkboxes are what allows the browser to recall prior field entries.
With regard to the Blogger comment system, I find it annoying. I admit to a bias for self-hosted sites! I think the Blogger pop-up window discourages comments.
