WSSF 2010: Day 2

Written By Tyler Ingram on Apr 19, 2010

Day 2 at the Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival (WSSF) consisted of hitting the snow up on Whistler, checking out the Orage Master’s event at Skier’s Plaza and just enjoying all that Whistler has to offer during the event.

Robyn, her Mum and myself headed up Whistler in the gondola at a nice 8:30 in the morning. The weather was good but slowly began to worsen as the day progressed. Eventually visibility went down the tube and the weather varied based on the elevation you were at. There was rain, sleet and even snow. The snow wasn’t bad, but we did enjoy ourselves up there.

We even checked out some of the Demo Tents too:

If you’re looking for some deals on gear, the village seems to have some good sales on too. Robyn and her mum picked up some new Smith (Heiress) Goggles which they got to try out. They loved them.

When we got back down (after lunch) the weather in the village was pretty drizzly, though it didn’t really require an umbrella. As Robyn and her mum headed back to the hotel, I wandered around the village to check out the Chevrolet Series Stage as well as the rest of the Orage Master’s event at Skier’s Plaza.

Katie Rox

Katie Rox was performing that day and the crowd definitely were digging her music even with the light drizzle.

When I got over to Skier’s Plaza to get up on the course of the Orage Master’s it was buzzing with energy from both the crowd and the crews up in the cribs.  The Orage Masters anti-comp is pretty cool and fun to watch. Not only are they awesome with skills but they also do it with costumes!

The Hip (not the band) was the source of a lot of the big air during the event. It’s amazing to see people sailing into the sky 50-feet over the course features.  Too bad it was only a single day event, I would have loved to see more of this the following day.

Day 2 was full of great things to see and do. Later that night Robyn and I headed out to the GLC for a kickoff party which was awesome and a lot of fun. We then headed over to the private Orage Master’s After Hours party at the Longhorn where more drinking, dancing and fun was had.

I’ll be back on Tuesday (20th of April) where the Grenade Games will be holding their Semi-Finales and Finales up on the awesome 22-foot Super Pipe on Blackcomb.

You can check out the other photos I have uploaded to my WSSF 2010 Flickr Photo Collection. I will be uploading to this collection throughout the week, so be sure to check it out often. Comment too if you see something you like, I LOVE feedback, in fact I crave it!

Oh man~ look at all those demos!! Will they be there for the whole duration of the festival? The weather does not look like Spring at all..though it’s better to have some fresh snow than none.

  • They should be up there on the weekend so Saturday and Sunday
